Police hurried to the scene yesterday night after being invited at 8.39am and found a 63-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries.
He was transported to a hospital where he unfortunately died later, and police believe he was attacked after a disorder at Wetherspons.
The 42-year-old man was arrested near the suspicion of murder and he remained in custody at the South London Police Station.
Detective Chief Inspector Craig Magee, from MET’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “This tragic incident occurred in the hectic part of the southeast London.
“We would like to hear from everyone who were on Lewisham High or The Watch House Pub’s street has information about what happened.
“We spent the night at the scene and today a police presence will be increased in the area as we continue to collect evidence.”
DCI Magee added: “I recognize the concerns that causes the crime.
“We have suspects for custody, and on the basis of investigations so far, we do not believe that there is a risk for a wider community.”
