A man is in disbelief after arguing over storage space on a recent flight — and even more “shocked” that his fellow passengers didn’t side with him.
The incident happened on a 6-hour flight from California to Canada, a man shared a post on the Reddit forum “Am I A——” on Friday, January 3, noting that he was “flying business class (non- pods) .”
The original poster (OP) explained that he only carries a laptop bag “for easy access to my electronics” whenever he flies.

But when he got to his seat along the flight aisle, the passenger quickly noticed that the storage space under the chair in front of him was already full. A passenger in a window seat “put his carry-on bag in front of my seat instead of his,” he wrote.
“I asked if he could move his bag to the seat in front of him, and he said there wasn’t enough room for it because he’s tall,” the OP said, adding that the passenger told him, “You only have a suitcase, so what’s the problem with putting it in the overhead compartment?”

However, standing his ground, the OP said he declined, stating that he wanted to have “easy access to his laptop and would like to use the space in front of him.”
While arguing over the underseat storage, the passengers began to take the other passenger’s side, “agreeing with him and saying I’m being unreasonable,” according to the OP.
“I said to him, ‘Why do you have access to the space in front of you, in front of me when we both paid for business class seats?’ ,” the OP wrote, noting that “things got really heated and I was about to call the flight attendant and he ended up moving his bag.”
Although the situation was resolved, the man “was so shocked when the other passengers agreed with him” and couldn’t help but wonder if he was in the wrong for being “too confrontational” and “unreasonable”.

In response, most Reddit users agreed that the OP was right – and not at all “unreasonable” – to stand his ground, since it was his storage space after all.
In a reply at the top, one user wrote that they “can’t believe people went along with” the window passenger, especially since they faced a similar situation when someone used their daughter’s underseat storage with the excuse that “she doesn’t it needs a lot of space.”

Others agreed, writing: “Not his place to use, period” and “You’re all in business class which means early boarding. He could have put his s— in the overhead.”
Agreeing that the OP’s actions were justified, another user explained how they would have acted in that situation in another main reply. “If I discovered something in my footwell, I would pull it out, put it in the aisle and call the FA [flight attendant] and reported that someone from the previous flight must have left it,” the user wrote.
“Seriously, the first rule of air travel: never justify, never explain, never engage,” they continued. “It just leads to arguments, conflicts and, sometimes, worse. Call the FA IMMEDIATELY who will put an end to this kind of nonsense. And commercial airliners are not mini-democracies [passengers] to vote on resource allocation.”
