A MAN in his 40s has died after his car “went into the sea” in a late-night horror incident in an Isle of Wight village.
Police were called to the scene involving a Ford Mondeo on Shore Road, Gurnard, at 11.28pm on Saturday.

RNLI lifeboats took part in an extensive search after the car was reported to have gone into the water, including a coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent.
However, a spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
He said: “We are appealing for witnesses following the fatal incident on the Isle of Wight last night (November 30).
“Police were called at 11.28pm on Saturday, November 30 to reports that a car had gone into water near Shore Road, Gurnard.

“The driver of the Ford Mondeo – a man in his 40s from Ryde – was the only person in the vehicle and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”
The man’s next of kin have been notified.
The spokesperson also confirmed that officers are conducting an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
