Man Sparks Debate After Revealing His Roommate Pays Rent in $1 Bills Every Month: ‘Money Is Money’

Money is money!

Earlier this week, a Reddit user with the username Derna_A_River shared a “Mildly Infuriating” post on the platform’s forum where he revealed that his roommate pays his rent in $1 bills every month.

“My roommate works as a bartender, so he gets stacks of $1 bills. He usually keeps the bigger bills and pays the rent with the $1s,” the user wrote.

Detailing that he asked his roommate “multiple times to switch accounts before paying,” Derna_A_River noted that his roommate “took it as a joke.”

“At first it was kind of, but now it’s just annoying,” he continued, before adding that his roommate is also late on paying his full rent for January, only paying $200 of the $500 total because he has “a birthday trip coming up Colombia”. ”

In the comments section, various other Reddit users reacted to the post, with many siding with the roommate.

“Who cares if he paid $1. Money is money, just keep it all there,” one user wrote, defending the roommate, while another said: “I could technically pay you in pennies if I wanted to.”

β€œThis is such a strange thing to complain about, he paid [sic] lease. Why does it matter that he used smaller bills? It’s all the same,” added another.

However, many criticized the roommate because she did not pay the full amount of their monthly rent.

“Rent cut due to upcoming birthday trip… They’re clearly not of age,” one commenter wrote, while another said, “Upcoming trip to Colombia? Maybe write off that 300 and start looking for a new roommate πŸ’€ .”
