“So Good luck Charlie it was amazing. That whole crew, they were always super sweet,” Goodwin begins. “I really like comedy. And I love Disney-style comedies.”
Goodwin goes on to say that her comedic sensibilities for the audition were influenced by none other than Disney favorite Raven-Symoné, who is the most famous female lead on the groundbreaking series. That’s so Raven for the network from 2003-2007.
“I grew up on That’s so Ravenso playing there, you know, channeling my Raven-Symoné and taking all of her genius comedic advice,” says Goodwin. And while she clarifies that she hasn’t spoken to Raven-Symoné “in person,” Goodwin notes that “watching her over the years” has given her an idea of what the network is looking for.
“I kind of knew what Disney liked and what they were doing there,” she says. “I learned it from her and Kyle Massey and Orlando Brown and all those kids that were there at the time, I definitely studied them. So when I went to audition for Disney for Good luck CharlieI knew exactly what they wanted.”

Goodwin also points out the surprising celebrity connection to her Good luck Charlie audition — reality TV star Lauren Conrad.
“I remember walking in with… I just started wearing jackets. I was just changing my wardrobe. So I walked in with a sleek ponytail. What [show] was out at the time? Hills! So I had that aesthetic: that Lauren Conrad kind of thing, very chic, red nails, you know, hair down to the back,” she recalls.
“And that was my aesthetic and I went in there on business, but my audition was crazy!” Goodwin continues. “I went crazy inside and [the Disney representatives] they were like, ‘Can you come back? Do the same, but can you just wear something more kitschy, funky and youthful?’ So I made one of those numbers and booked it!”
During the show’s four seasons, Goodwin recurred as Ivy Wentz, the best friend of Teddy Duncan, played by showrunner Bridgit Mendler. When asked if she and Mendler (who notably retired from acting and music to pursue higher education and entrepreneurship) stay in touch, Goodwin says there’s only love between them.

“I’m super happy for her! When I left Good luck Charlie … I knew he would go on to do great things. And the fact that she even continued her education while being a huge Disney Channel star at the time was admirable,” she shares.
