MARCUS RASHFORD has broken his silence following his shock omission from England’s Euro 2024 squad.

And 20 minutes after the FA made his omission public, the 26-year-old issued a statement.

But the striker didn’t throw his toys out of the pram, opting instead to send a message of support to his teammates and the international.

He wrote on his Instagram: “I wish Gareth and the boys all the best in the upcoming tournament.”

Rashford has been a mainstay in the England squad since Southgate succeeded Roy Hodgson as manager in November 2016.

The United striker featured in all three tournaments held during Southgate’s reign.

But his poor form last season finally prevented him from playing in a fourth consecutive major international competition.

The decision to drop Rashford was not an easy one for Southgate, who said: “Of course these are tough calls.

“You are talking about players who are very important players.

“With Marcus, in that part of the field, I feel that other players had better seasons, it’s simple.

Rashford has made a total of 60 appearances for his country since making his debut in 2017.

He scored 17 times, and he scored three of those goals at the 2022 World Cup.

Rashford isn’t the only big-name player left out of the squad.

Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Reece James will have the summer off as they were not called up for the tournament.

Southgate added: “33 is not a very fair definition because we are taking a longer squad with some younger players.

“Hendo gave himself every chance. He missed five weeks from the last camp due to injury and since then he hasn’t been able to get up to that pace.

“It’s a big decision, three players from last time, him, Ben [White] and Marcus [Rashford] they were all excellent professionals.

“[Jordan Henderson] will be miss. He is an exceptional person and a fantastic human being.

– He has been in that leadership role for a long time.
