Man & woman, 18, rammed by out of control car after horror crash saw it mount curb – as woman, 30, arrested

TWO teenagers are fighting for their lives in hospital after a car swerved and hit them in Manchester city center last night.

They were hit by a Toyota Yaris that “lost control” near Deansgate Locks.

The car collided with another car, mounted the curb and then struck another car, according to police.

Two pedestrians, a young man and a young woman, both aged 18, were seriously injured in the accident.

The incident happened last night around 10:30 p.m. when the popular area was full of revelers.

The investigation is ongoing. In a statement, Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were called to Whitworth Street West.

A 30-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and is in custody on suspicion of causing serious bodily injury by dangerous driving.

Following “initial enquiries”, police said the Toyota Yaris was traveling on Whitworth Street West, after the Deansgate exit, when it “lost control” before colliding with a Vauxhall Corsa.

The Yaris mounted the curb and then collided with other street objects and a Kia Sportage.

Detective Constable Simon Venguedasalon, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Since this incident we have carried out inquiries overnight and are now in a position to appeal to the public who were in the area for any witness statements and footage.

“We understand that at this time, due to the location, there are many witnesses to the incident and we would urge them to come forward if we have not yet spoken to you.

“As part of our investigation, we want to fully understand the moment that led to the serious collision to ensure we can provide the necessary answers to the loved ones of the victims who are currently receiving treatment.”
