Mandy Moore Surprises Nanny Who’s ‘Closer Than Family’ with a Home Makeover: ‘I Love Her Deeply’ (Exclusive)

Mandy Moore will once again make audiences cry in an emotional, all-new episode Celebrity bonds.

The This is us alum, 40, teams up with Drew and Jonathan Scott will transform Celine’s babysitter’s backyard into a relaxing oasis in the season 5 premiere of the makeover show

“Celine is the nanny, the cook, the surrogate parent, the housekeeper — I mean, she literally does everything and anything in our lives,” Moore tells PEOPLE in an exclusive first look at the upcoming episode (above). “I feel like I couldn’t get through a day without her.”

The actress shares sons Augustus “Gus,” 3, and Oscar “Ozzie,” 19 months, with husband Taylor Goldsmith (the couple is also currently expecting their third child, a girl). She adds that her sons share a special bond with Celina, whom he calls Cece.

Recounting their friendship over the years, Moore explains that she was 15 when she first met Celina — who was working with her manager at the time — but the two didn’t “really come into each other’s lives until 2009.”

The A walk to remember the star continues: “It’s been almost 15 years since we’ve known each other. She became closer than family. She is just such a constant in my life. I love her deeply. I will do anything for her.”

Because Celina is someone “who’s not used to people taking care of her,” Moore says it “means everything” to her to give back — even if it means getting her hands dirty in the process.

In the exclusive clip above, the “Candy” singer — who has several home renovations under her belt — rolls up her sleeves and learns how to use a new tool.

“Using the angle grinder was definitely one of the more difficult things I was asked to do on this project,” she says. “It was scary seeing the sparks fly and making sure I was cutting it at the right angle.”

Jonathan then chronicles Moore’s progress as she works her way through the hard material by snapping photos of the actress smiling through it.

“I’m learning as I go,” Moore says of the process, “but it’s fun and you feel accomplished.”

The Moore episode Celebrity bonds airs Sunday, August 12 at 9:00 PM ET on HGTV.
