Mangal Dhillon (1974-2023) was an Indian actor, writer, filmmaker, director and poet. He is famous for his role as Labhaya Ram in the Hindi television series “Buniyaad” (1986) aired on DD National. He breathed his last on June 11, 2023, in Ludhiana, Punjab, after battling cancer.

Mangal Singh Dhillon was born on Tuesday, June 18, 1974, in Wander Jatana village, Faridkot tehsil, Faridkot district, Punjab, India (age 48 years at the time of death). His zodiac sign is Gemini. He studied in Government Higher Secondary School, Panjgrain, Faridkot, Kalam, till fourth grade. He continued his studies at Zilla Parishad High School in Kailinigasan district of Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh. Later, he obtained a degree in Theater Arts from Government College Muktsar. In 1980, he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Method Acting from the Department of Indian Drama, Panjab University, Punjab, India. After completing his training at the university’s drama department, he was awarded a gold medal for his outstanding performance as an actor. While studying at university, he participated in many plays.

Facts/Trivia
- It was in Chandigarh that he honed his skills as an actor. He was a country boy when he came here after a dispute with his father. He didn’t have a penny in his pocket. There he founded his own theater company, Natyalya, in 1982.
- His father wanted him to join the police or become a lawyer, but these careers did not inspire him. By the time he graduated from a public college in Muktsar, he had decided to pursue a career as a radio announcer or teacher. However, his interest in theater grew.
- Many years ago, Mangal Dhillon’s life transformed when he began to connect with God. In an interview, he shared that he once communicated with God and got answers to his questions. He started a website dedicated to Sikh meditation. Additionally, he established a social welfare trust aimed at helping people “awaken” and progress on their spiritual path. He considers himself lucky to be a conduit for God’s message. Additionally, the foundation works to raise awareness of Sikh history through film.
- Mangal Dhillon’s approach to film took a major turn when he encountered a Catholic priest’s ideas about Sikh history. The father said he believed the Sikhs did not reveal their bloody and unparalleled history to the world, unlike Christianity, which spread throughout the world through the story of Jesus Christ. Mangal was saddened and deeply affected by these words as he felt it was unacceptable and shameful for the entire Sikh community. Spurred by this realization, he decided to give up his film and television career. He worked with great passion to preserve Sikh history for the world and future generations of Sikhs.
- In 2009, he started his YouTube channel ‘Mangal Dhillon Channel’ where he uploaded spiritual and motivational videos.
