His health had been deteriorating since May 2023 after he suffered a brain hemorrhage that took him to intensive care at Hinduja Hospital where he was in a semi-conscious state for several days.
During this time, doctors saw little hope for recovery so he was said to have retired to his home in Shivaji Park where he was receiving care. At the age of 86, he died on February 23, 2024 at around 3 a.m. due to health complications related to aging after a cardiac arrest.
The news of his death was confirmed by Chief Operating Officer of PD Hinduja Hospital Joy Chakravarty. In a statement, Joy said,
“Manohar Joshi, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, was admitted to PD Hinduja Hospital on February 21, 2024. He suffered a heart attack and is critically ill. He is currently in intensive care under strict supervision and receiving the best medical care.”

Manohar Joshi married Anagha Joshi on March 14, 1964 in Mumbai. His wife Anagha passed away on August 3, 2020 at the age of 75 at his Dadar Shivaji Park residence at 11 pm after a brief illness. Manohar’s wife Anagha Joshi was born on January 2, 1945. Her real name was Anagha Mangal Higve.
When Manohar decided to marry Anagha at a girls viewing event, then his family made a condition in front of Anagha Joshi’s family that the child will have to pay dowry in marriage. At that time Manohar was so afraid because he was thinking whether their marriage will be done or not.
The boy Pant really liked Anagha, so when he learned about the dowry conditions set by Manohar’s family, he met Anagha’s brother right after the fight with Shakkal.
Pant gave the dowry to Anagha’s brother and told him to keep it all a secret. Then Anagha’s brother gave dowry to Manohar’s family in marriage.
Manohar and his wife were blessed with a son and two daughters.

Manohar’s son Unmesh Joshi said about his father to Hindustan Times,
“He was admitted to the ICU and was under observation. He had heart problems on Wednesday. He had long-term health problems related to aging. We will perform the last rites at the Shivaji Park crematorium and before that the remains will be brought to our house in Matunga.”
Manohar Joshi’s daughters are Asmita Joshi and Namrata Joshi. He had a granddaughter named Sharvari Wagh who is an actress and made her debut with Bunty Aur Babli 2 in 2021. He had a grandson named Abhishek.
Manohar Joshi leaves behind a son, two daughters, a granddaughter, grandson and son-in-law Girish Vyas.
