Manoj Ramesh Sane was born in 1967 in Ahmednagar District, Maharashtra, India (age 56 in 2023). Later he did the ITI (Industrial Training Institute) technician course. Later, he moved to Mumbai for work. However, when he could not find a suitable job, he started working in a ration shop in Mumbai Villagers Consumers Co-operative Limited.

Relationship with Saraswati Vidya
Manoj Sane first met Saraswati Vaidya in 2008 at a ration shop in Babhai Naka area of Borivali. Both are orphans and started living together in 2015. They live in G Wing of Geeta Akash Deep Building in Geeta Nagar. The seventh phase of Mira Bhayandar Road in Mumbai is for five years till 2020. They then moved to Apartment 704, J Wing, in the same building.

They were allegedly in a relationship after the news of Saraswati Vaidya’s murder went viral; however, Manoj Sane said during the investigation that he never had a physical relationship with her , she is like his daughter. Apparently, he used to teach her math when she was scheduled to appear for her 10th standard exam. Neighbors believed they were a married couple; however, no marriage certificate was found. The apartment was rented in Manoj’s name.
Murder of Saraswati Vaidya
On the evening of June 7, 2023, the police received a complaint from Manoj’s neighbor about an unpleasant smell coming from his apartment. The neighbor had earlier complained to Manoj about the bad smell and he said he would investigate and resolve the issue. When police arrived at the apartment, they found fragments of Saraswati’s body in the bathroom. He reportedly killed her on June 4, 2023. Upon enquiry, it was revealed that Manoj chopped her body into pieces and disposed of it.

He allegedly purchased a tile cutting machine worth Rs 1,000 and a 200-volt electric chain saw worth Rs 4,000, which he used to cut her body into pieces. He cut up her body in the bathroom and cooked it in a pressure cooker to get rid of the stench. Police recovered Saraswati’s legs and two bags of cooked body parts from the apartment. Manoj also purchased 5 bottles of Nilgiri (eucalyptus) oil to slow down the decomposition of the body. Manoj allegedly did not flinch when police asked him about the bad smell and usually walked around the apartment wearing a mask.
Police search Manoj Sane’s apartment and collect fragments of evidence
The police collected evidence from the apartment and sent the body to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for forensic analysis. There are also suspicions that Manoj fed Saraswati’s body parts to stray dogs. Police also inspected the septic tank of the colony after residents of the colony complained of abnormal blockage in the drains and suspected Manoj of disposing of some body parts through the toilet. As he tried to escape the building, police captured him from the elevator with the help of residents. The police registered FIR No. 0306 under Sections 302 and 201 of IPC at Thananaya Nagar police station on June 8, 2023, and produced him before the court, which sentenced him to judicial custody till May 16, 2023.

Manoj Sane claimed during the initial interrogation that he lost his job on the ration ship on May 29, 2023, due to which there were frequent quarrels between them. He claimed that 32-year-old Saraswati committed suicide by taking poison on the morning of June 3, 2023. When he saw her body, he was afraid of being charged with murder and decided to dispose of the body.
Inspired by the Shraddha Walker case
Manoj told police during preliminary investigation that he believed he was inspired by the Shraddha Walker case and thought he could dispose of the body by cutting it into pieces. There are some similarities between the Shraddha Walker murder case and the Saraswati Vaidya murder case, where the two accused, Aftab Poonawala and Manoj Sane, were captured on CCTV carrying sacks or bags and cutting the body into pieces; however, there are some key differences, such as Walker The rental agreement was in two names; however, Sane rented the apartment only in his own name. Furthermore, Aftab threw the body into the forest; however, Manoj used to cook the body in a pressure cooker.
Facts/Trivia
- Manoj was infected with HIV in 2008 and is on medication. Apparently, he contracted the virus from an unsafe blood transfusion after a traffic accident.
- He kept to himself and rarely interacted with his neighbors. No one in his building knew his name.
