Manoj Sonkar aka Manoj Kumar aka Manoj Kumar Sonkar was born in Chandigarh, India. According to one source, he was born on Wednesday, February 15, 1984 (age 40; as of 2024), and according to another source, he was born on Friday, February 15, 1985 (age 39; as of 2024). His zodiac sign is Aquarius. His family moved to Chandigarh from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a few months before his birth. He studied in a government school in Chandigarh till seventh standard before dropping out to support his family after his father’s death. Later he pursued a political career.

In October 2021, he was appointed as the Vice-President of the Chandigarh SC Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In December 2021, he contested the election from Chandigarh Municipal Corporation ward 7 (Mauri Jagran and Vikas Nagar) as a BJP candidate and won by 784 votes and became a municipal councilor.
He defeated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Kuldeep Singh Teeta in the 2024 Chandigarh mayoral election, who also got the ticket from the Indian National Congress (INC) SUPPORT. Sankar received 16 votes and Dita received 12 votes, eight of which were declared invalid by host Anil Masih. When Manoj was asked about the controversy surrounding the mayoral election, he replied that the opposition was creating riots to cover up the damage caused by its actions. He also talked about his priorities as mayor and said cleaning up the Dadu Majra dumpsite and welfare of the city will be his top priority.
Manoj resigned as Chandigarh mayor on February 19, 2024, ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on allegations of misconduct during the Chandigarh mayoral election.
