Margot Robbie Retires Barbie Pink for Brown Versace Gown at 2024 Oscars — and We Have a Guess as to Why

Margot Robbie ends award season with a gorgeous look that’s probably her least favorite Barbie appearance of everything.

For the 2024 Oscars, stylist Andrew Mukamal dressed Robbie in a shimmery brown strapless Versace gown with a structured bodice and draped waist.

She kept her blonde hair simple and plain and wore just a single Fred Leighton bracelet for added sparkle.

The Barbie the star, who has been drawing inspiration for the outfit from her character for the past year, was noticeably more modest for this red carpet, despite the fact that it was the biggest awards ceremony in Hollywood. Her colleague America Ferrera, however, did the opposite on Sunday night. The Oscar nominee wore Barbie pink for the first time all awards season — she also opted for a Versace look.

Although we cannot say for sure, we think it is very possible that Robbie, who also worked as a producer on Barbietook a back seat to the Oscars, allowing some of the rest Barbie the family is having their moment, including Ferrera.

Barbie was nominated for eight awards at this year’s Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for Ferrera, and Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling. Although Robbie didn’t receive a nomination for her performance in the film, she shrugged it off at a panel in January, showing her gratitude for everything the film accomplished and her excitement over the nominations they received as a team.

“There’s no way to be sad when you know you’re blessed like this,” Robbie said during a panel held at a special Screen Actors Guild screening, according to Deadline. She added that “it’s beyond ecstatic that we have eight Oscar nominations — it’s so wild.”

“Obviously I think Greta should be nominated for director because what she did is a once-in-a-lifetime, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the movies,” she added. is about director Greta Gerwig, who was also not nominated, according to the outlet.

But Robbie has racked up a string of nominations during awards season and brought her flawless Barbie style to every red carpet along the way, including her Golden Globes dress, which was inspired by the 1977 Barbie SuperStar.

The look was a custom Giorgio Armani Privé hot pink sequined gown with a pink tulle boa, which she accessorized with $3 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, including a 30-ct. diamond studs and 3-ct. D Flawless Old Cut Golconda Diamond Ring with Natural Vibrant Pink Diamonds.

The 96th Academy Awards will air live on ABC from the Dolby Theater on Sunday, March 10, at 7:00 PM ET.
