Maria Bello Tried Ozempic, Botox and More to Combat Menopause Before Learning to ‘Accept My Newly Emerging Self’

Maria Bello talks about finally accepting the transition to menopause.

On Monday, the 56-year-old actress returned to Instagram after two years — dubbing her social media hiatus a “(meno)PAUSE” — and detailed how she’s tried a number of ways to combat the side effects of menopause.

“I went through the first half of menopause during Covid and tried everything to keep it off,” she wrote. “I took bioidentical hormones (and still do), dieted harder and faster, but still managed to gain 15 kilos, tried Ozempic for a week but gave up after constant nausea and vomiting, got rid of neck wagging, tried Botox, fillers and lasers, face creams, cellulite machines, facial threads, teeth straightening and much more.”

“I did copious amounts of therapy, including microdosing psilocybin, quit Hollywood and all social media, and finally moved to Paris,” she continued. “That was October 2021.”

Bello said that’s when she decided to “really delve into PAUSE in menopause” and “immerse myself” in the “7 Tasks of Aging,” introduced by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. She explained that after a lot of self-reflection, she was able to adapt and accept her menopause journey.

“Jung said that the point of middle age is marked by disappointment and depression. He said that for a successful transition into the second half of life, it is necessary to complete these tasks. (More on that later),” she said. “Now that I’ve finally come out of my cocoon of self-reflection, I want to share my journey over the past two years to embrace my new self.”
