Mark Houck was arrested in front of his children during a SWAT raid on his home.
On October 13, 2021, Houck allegedly assaulted a 72-year-old man identified in the indictment as “BL” outside the Elizabeth Black Parenthood Medical Center in Philadelphia. According to a statement from the Justice Department, BL was trying to escort two patients out of the clinic when the defendant pushed him to the ground. In another case, Houck was accused of “verbally” harassing BL outside the facility before shoving him roughly and causing him to be injured requiring medical attention.
According to US Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero:
“Assault is always a serious offence, and the FACE Act makes it a federal crime if the victim is targeted for involvement in a reproductive healthcare facility.” Our office and the Department of Justice are dedicated to prosecuting crimes that threaten the safety and rights of all.”
FBI Philadelphia Special Agent Jacqueline Maguire also commented on the incident, saying:
“Simply put, violence is never the solution.” Physical assault in violation of the FACE Act is a serious offense for which the FBI will seek to bring criminals to justice.”
According to Ryan-Marie, wife of Mark Houck, 25 to 30 armed FBI agents broke into their home early Friday morning. Police are said to have banged on the door and shouted at the family to open it.
She begged the police that:
“Please, I will open the door for you, but please, my children are at home.” “I have seven babies at home.”
She added that agents pointed weapons at them while shouting at the children upstairs.
She revealed:
“All the kids were screaming.” It’s all really scary and scary.
When Houck’s wife questioned FBI agents about their legal rationale for arresting her husband, they said, “they will arrest him whether they have a warrant or not.” Ryan-Marie Houck testified that after accusing authorities of Mark’s abduction, she received the first page of an arrest warrant. The newspaper said that Mark had been charged with violating the FACE Act. If convicted, Mark Houck faces up to 11 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $350,000.
