Mark Ronson Reflects on Making Music After Becoming a Parent at 2024 Grammys: ‘No Song More Important Than Bathtime’

Mark Ronson’s priorities have changed.

The “Uptown Funk” artist, 48, shared how parenthood has transformed his creativity — and songwriting — since having his first child. When asked on the red carpet at the 66th Grammy Awards if his daughter inspired his music, he replied, “A lot, actually.”

“I was always just like someone who was in the studio all the time,” he said. “And now it’s like no song or idea is more important than taking a bath and coming home. I love that.”

Despite usually rushing home for those family moments, Ronson and wife Grace Gummer used Sunday night’s awards show as an opportunity to relax. “We have a one-year-old daughter, me and my wife, so maybe we’ll have a little party tonight,” he added.

The “Electricity” singer and Gummer — Meryl Streep’s daughter — welcomed their first child together in January 2023. Earlier this year, Ronson thanked both his wife and daughter in his speech at the Critics Choice Awards for Best Song: Barbie“I’m just Ken”! “To my wife and my daughter, Ruthie and Grace, you are my world and my everything, so thank you very much,” Ronson said.

The couple announced their pregnancy in October 2022 when Gummer, 38, stepped out with her baby bump on W Magazine’s 50th Anniversary Celebration in New York. In fact, it was Ronson’s sister Annabelle Dexter-Jones who exclusively confirmed the March 2023 birth to PEOPLE.
