Mark Wahlberg Says His Daughter Thinks He’s a Complete Idiot ‘in Many Many Ways’ (Exclusive)

Mark Wahlberg is just like any other dad.

“I have a teenager who won’t stop playing video games. I have a daughter who thinks she knows everything and [me and wife Rhea Durham] complete idiots in many, many ways,” he tells PEOPLE at the Las Vegas premiere of his movie “Family Plan.”

In October 2022, the Oscar-nominated actor revealed that his family moved from Los Angeles to Nevada to give them “a better life and pursue their dreams — whether it’s my daughter as a rider, my son as a basketball player, my younger son as golfer,” during a virtual appearance on Conversation.

In October, Wahlberg, 52, exclusively told PEOPLE that Durham, 45, and children Grace, 13, Ella, 20, Brendan, 15, and Michael, 17, have “adjusted nicely” to their new life. “All the children are at school and everyone is happy,” he added.

In “Family Plan,” Wahlberg stars as an ex-assassin turned suburban dad who tries to make the same move to Nevada — only this time because his mask is exposed and he must find safety amid the bright lights of Las Vegas.

In a fun moment, the film includes a scene where Wahlberg and co-star Michelle Monaghan rap along to Vanilla Ice’s classic “Ice, Ice Baby.”

When asked if the scene reminded him of his former rap career as Marky Mark, Wahlberg told PEOPLE that “Marky Mark wouldn’t have done Vanilla Ice. I’m a little more fixable now. I think it was one of those things where it was fun.”

The night before the shoot, director Simon Cellan Jones also suggested a dozen other songs he thought might work during the scene.

“Most of them were like these weird Irish folk songs,” says Wahlberg. “[Ice, Ice Baby] was the only song we knew and I actually thought it would be funny.”

“Michelle, she showed her true colors and loves the song,” he adds of Monaghan, who plays his wife in the film. “She knew every word. First verse, second to last.”

As committed as Monaghan was to the role, so was Wahlberg. In one scene, Wahlberg speaks French with his wife from the film – something that took him four months to prepare for.

“He’s the hardest working actor,” Jones tells PEOPLE. “He commits. He has a scene where he speaks French and he practiced for months. He has a fight scene, he will try to do all the stunts himself. He appears. He comes and commits.”
