For SZA, it’s been like “all the stars are closer” since the incredible success of her 2022 album. SOS — so much so that he doesn’t know what’s next.
The R&B superstar, 34, spoke to Zane Lowe, 50, about her tumultuous year in an interview with Apple Music Radio.
In the interview, which debuted on Tuesday, the “Kill Bill” singer admitted that she feels like she has no goals anymore since she’s already accomplished more than she could have imagined.

The Grammy winner said, “Now I’m in a space where it’s a— it with everything on the creative side. The business side is scary, but on the creative side, it’s like, ‘No, I don’t have any more goals, so I might as well try in this moment.'”

After the host asked if she’d “made it up” to everything she hoped for, the artist (whose real name is Solána Imani Rowe) shared that she actually reached every milestone she set out for herself when she released her studio debut Ctrl back in 2017. “I figured it out on Ctrl“, she revealed. “I don’t have any more goals, and it sounds terrible, but as for my career… I keep saying it — no one believes me — but you don’t seem to understand. Those are my goals.”
The “Snooze” singer went on to mention what she has achieved so far. “I’ve already gone platinum – I didn’t think I’d ever go platinum – I’ve sold a bunch of records. I got to meet Stevie Wonder, I got to meet Beyoncé and work with her, I got to meet Frank Ocean. My mom and my dad used to come to all these cool countries to see me perform. I had sold out concerts, I have to headline the festival.”
“Like, what else do I want?” she continued. “I’m nominated for a Grammy. I won a Grammy. For me personally, I’m done.”
“Everything that has passed is much more than what I wanted, thought, dreamed,” the hitmaker added.

SZA garnered immediate critical acclaim following her mainstream debut in 2017 when she released her first studio album, which spawned two top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Following its release, she received a nomination for Best New Artist at the 2018 Grammy Awards. four other awards.

The R&B-pop star also opened up to Lowe about how the increased attention she’s received over the past few years has been overwhelming at times. “I hate being famous. It’s bullshit. I hate being questioned, I hate being perceived,” she revealed.
While finding the spotlight has been a challenge, SZA explained that the only caveat is being able to connect on stage and in more intimate ways with fans. “I love connecting with people in a crowd when it feels like it’s really me and you now,” she shared. “I’ll be eye-to-eye with so many people during the show, and that’s something about touring that makes the love real and palpable.”

Aside from touring, the “Love Galore” artist opened up about how she still likes to be closer to her listeners, from DMing them about their personal lives to “kiki-ing” in the comments on social media. She said, “When I find you all after the show and we do the whole shaboo and talk about your sign, your boyfriend, your problems, all that stuff, or I see you post stuff on the show and just lose yourself — it’s real, it’s love, it’s tangible.”
“I feel like it makes sense to me,” she added, explaining that she feels compelled to love her fans back because of how much love they give her.
After release from SOS, SZA took the project on a major world arena tour. After hitting the North American and European circuit during the winter and spring, she extended her live show with a second run of American shows during the fall.
Next year, the star will compete in nine categories at the 66th Grammy Awards and likely announce her next project Flana. After first telling fans that the release was an extended version SOSshe’s since shared that it’s gotten more extensive than that and even started teasing six versions of the album art.
