Survivors of paradise will put 12 contestants to the test as they struggle to prove whether or not they deserve to live in paradise.
In PEOPLE’s exclusive debut trailer for the Netflix competition reality show, a dozen contestants will enter a fantasy mansion to have the “summer of their lives,” even though a “french wrench” will leave half of them living in misery as they compete for a $100,000 cash prize.
According to the show’s official synopsis, the contestants will “arrive at their beautiful clifftop mansion only to find out that it might not be their new home.”

“Instead, half of the group will live in the wild forest just below the mansion, competing to get back to the mansion,” the synopsis continues. “And when someone enters, someone can also leave. To have a chance to win the cash prize, they will have to be in the villa at the end. Friendships — and alliances — are important because they can only return to the mansion if their competitors think they really deserve it.”

The trailer opens with a scene of the challengers reliving it while having fun on the water and clinking champagne glasses on their way to heaven.
“Life doesn’t get any better than this,” says one person as the group splashes champagne on the water.
As they are led to believe that their time on the show will be luxurious, a mysterious voice begins: “12 strangers will compete for a life-changing prize money, they think they will live a life of luxury, but there is a catch…”

The group begins exploring the grand mansion when the lights go out and the narrator continues, “In this game, everyone starts with nothing.”
The scene shifts so that half of the contestants explore the camp below the villa and a few discover their toilets.
“Is that the bathroom?” one contestant asks as the scene cuts to another opening the door to an outdoor toilet. “This is all awful.”

In the confessional interview, the participant shivers reacting to the conditions of their stay. “Did I sign up for the Fyre Festival?” she returns the infamous fake festival. “I don’t believe I am!”
As a voice reveals that “alliances will take you to heaven, but enemies will send you back to hell,” the two challengers declare “no backstabbing” as they seal the deal with a small promise.

Tensions come to a head when one contestant claims, “I want to be in that mansion, I want to be on top,” and another notes that “something scandalous” is brewing as romance blossoms.
“No offense, I just don’t like you,” the male contestant reveals, and the woman screams during the confrontation, “You’re not going to sit there and tell me my emotions are an act.”
