Mark Wahlberg has one of the most extensive resumes in Hollywood, but his “most important role” is being a father.

The Oscar-nominated actor and his wife, Rhea Durham, have four children: Ella, 20, Michael, 17, Brendan, 15, and Grace, 13. Although raising four children is “not easy,” Wahlberg often turns to his faith “for strength and guidance.” to be the best parent he can be.

Wahlberg and Durham first became parents when their daughter Ella Rae was born on September 2, 2003 in LA. On the same day, one of Wahlberg’s older sisters, Deborah Wahlberg, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the age of 43.

As a result, Wahlberg admitted that Ella’s birthday can be a “bittersweet” day for the actor. When Ella turned 18 in 2021, Wahlberg shared a couple of pictures on his Instagram account paying tribute to both his daughter and big sister.

Over the years, Wahlberg has admitted that raising a teenage daughter can be “challenging.”

“It’s hard, but people say they get through it and come back to you,” he told PEOPLE in 2018. “She wants to go off and do her own thing. [There’s] lots of attitude, lots of aggression, lots of ‘You’re the worst, you ruin everything!’ ”

But the tumultuous years seem to be behind Wahlberg and his older daughter. The two have since bonded over some amazing things: Ella’s dating and her fashion.

Ella Rae has been dating her boyfriend James for over a year. Wahlberg expressed his approval of his daughter’s partner, calling him “fantastic” and declaring the young couple “perfect for each other.” The actor and the teenager also share many common interests, and the two even hit the gym together.

“I used to work out to keep guys away from my girlfriends and now I’m working out with a boyfriend. Imagine that,” Wahlberg said in a clip on Instagram. In the caption, he added: “Ella is a lucky girl and I’m a lucky dad! He’s a great young man.”

Wahlberg and Ella bonded over her choice of clothing—specifically, an old Marky Mark and a Funky Bunch T-shirt that Ella bought at a vintage store.

“She rocked,” Wahlberg told PEOPLE of Ella’s old-school Marky Mark outfit. “She was really rocking [it] with me… It’s nice to have [her celebrate] some of my past. It was actually a very nice moment for me.”

Wahlberg and Durham welcomed their first son, Michael, on March 21, 2006 in LA. As the eldest boy in the Wahlberg clan, Michael’s name honors both his father and his grandfather.

“My dad called me Mike since I was a child,” Wahlberg said before giving birth. “So, in honor of my dad, I think we’ll call him Michael.”

Growing up, Michael was “obsessed with all sports” — including boxing at one point. When Wahlberg was shooting the 2010 film Fighter, the actor had a boxing ring set up in his family’s backyard to train for his role as Micky Ward. But Michael – who was just 4 at the time – also quickly became obsessed with the ring.

“He just hits me as hard as he can,” Wahlberg said of Michael. “Fun for him, not fun for me because I literally thought, ‘This kid is starting to hit the man hard!’ ”

Following his father’s faith, Michael celebrated a religious milestone in May 2022 when he was confirmed. Wahlberg captured the special day on his Instagram, sharing a sweet photo of Michael with Durham.

In March 2023, Wahlberg celebrated Michael’s 17th birthday with a sweet tribute on Instagram.

The following month, Wahlberg and Durham got Michael his first car — a Ford Bronco.

Brendan Joseph Wahlberg, 15

Brendan Joseph Wahlberg joined the growing family on September 16, 2008. As Wahlberg said during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Lenohis older siblings had different reactions to his arrival.

At first, Michael was “completely frustrated” that he was no longer a child in the family, while Ella was “thrilled” to have a new sibling to play with. “She thinks she has a live-action toy… She loves it,” Wahlberg said.

Brendan shares his older brother’s passion for the sport, even dribbling a half-court basketball at just 10 years old. But Wahlberg said he often stays away from his kids’ sports practices or games and watches from the car instead, to help them “have their own identity.”

In March 2023, Wahlberg and Brendan attended a UFC fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Wahlberg and Durham welcomed their fourth child, a daughter named Grace Margaret, on January 11, 2010.

The Boogie nights star has shared several sweet moments with his younger daughter over the years, including her first communion in April 2018, her father-daughter dance in 2010 (where she refused to dance with Wahlberg), and a quarantined spa day in March 2020.
