Mark Zuckerberg Tears His ACL While ‘Training for Competitive MMA Fight’: ‘Grateful for the Doctors’

Mark Zuckerberg is recovering from a serious leg injury.

“I tore my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it,” the 39-year-old Facebook co-founder shared via Instagram on Friday.

In his social media carousel, Zuckerberg included several pictures of himself in a hospital bed, appearing to be doing well after surgery.

“I am grateful to the doctors and the team who take care of me. I was training for a competitive MMA fight at the beginning of next year, but now it’s been delayed a bit,” he added.

In the photos, Zuckerberg was lying with his left leg bandaged and in a cast. He raised his left fist as a sign that his torn ACL hadn’t gotten the best of him. His wife Priscilla Chan also appeared on the broadcast, wiping his forehead and helping him put on a pair of shoes.

Zuckerberg added: “I’m still looking forward to doing it after I recover. Thank you all for your love and support.”

The director of Meta has been involved in competitive sports for some time.

“I competed in my first jiu jitsu tournament and won a few medals for the Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu team,” he said in a May 6 Instagram post. The photos show Zuckerberg raising his hand in victory after wrestling with his opponents.

The following month, he made headlines when Tesla CEO Elon Musk seemingly challenged him to a “cage match.”

Both billionaires went back and forth on social media following the online debate about their competing apps.

“I’m all for a cage fight if he is lol,” X’s owner responded during a June 20 chat.

Zuckerberg got into the spirit and posted a screenshot of the exchange to his Instagram Story, adding, “Send me location,” written in all caps.

Many wondered if the two tech entrepreneurs were serious.

In a statement to PEOPLE, Meta’s spokesperson said, “The story speaks for itself.”

Days later, UFC president Dana White addressed the possibility of Zuckerberg and Musk facing off.

“I talked to Elon and Mark last night, they’re both totally serious about this,” White told TMZ in a June 22 interview.

“Because they both said, ‘Yeah, we’re going to do it.’ They both want to do it. Mark Zuckerberg hit me first and said, ‘Is he serious?’ I said: ‘I don’t know, let me ask [Musk].’ “I asked him and he said, ‘Yeah, I’m dead serious,'” White continued.

In August, Zuckerberg claimed in a Threads post that Musk would not confirm the date. “If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and an official event, he knows how to reach me,” Zuckerberg wrote. “Otherwise, it’s time to move on. I’ll focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously.”
