Marla Gibbs, the 92-year-old “Jeffersons” icon, made a rare appearance at the Emmys, surprising everyone. Best known for her role in the series, she has been out of the limelight for a while.
Gibbs wowed the crowd with her return to the red carpet, wearing a gorgeous black gown adorned with sequins and jewels.
Accompanying Quint Brunson on stage at the awards, she received a warm reception from the audience, proving that she is still loved at 92.
Brunson expressed her excitement to share the stage with Gibbs, noting her illustrious career spanning decades and her continued vitality in the industry, surpassing even those much younger than her in activity and relevance.
Gibbs took the moment to joke around, joking, “That’s easy, honey: the pay gap,” noting that she’ll have to work “another 20 years” before she considers retirement.
She playfully suggested that Brunson could write a role for her at Abbott Elementary, adding, “Black people don’t shoot!” However, casting Gibbs for the show would be a challenge due to her already busy schedule.
Her acting career began with an uncredited role in the 1968 film “Yours, Mys and Ours”, and since then she has remained active, appearing in numerous films and TV shows. In 2022, she starred in the series “Bromates”, “Spirit Halloween:
The Movie” and “Grey’s Anatomy”, while last year she graced the screens in “A Snowy Day in Oakland”, “The Ms. Pat Show” and “History of the World: Part II”.
