Taking to social media after the episode aired, some were quick to say they were a bit surprised by the events that took place. One person wrote: “ITV’s #Maryland – is that me? But what a waste of time! Lately a lot of TV’s end with ‘Why do they bother?’ So far-fetched and filled with emotional clichés – and why, oh why Stockard Channing?”

Another echoed this thought, tweeting: “‘Was it then?’ People watch ITV. #Maryland.” A third added, “Lots of unanswered and loosely ended questions – why and specifically how #Maryland makes me feel unsatisfied.”

However, that’s not all negative as some people were more impressed with the emotional story and excellent acting by the cast. “#Maryland might be one of the best dramas ITV has made in a long time compared to what I’ve seen. I might have to watch it again. And Eve Best needs to be on TV more. “, said one fan.

Another commented: “I’m a mess in the end, that hug represents Mary’s last wish that her daughters be found and mended, thank you. Suranne and Eve worked wonders together. Congratulations on producing the Show! More please.”

Meanwhile, a third person posted: “Really enjoyed #Maryland. Sometimes drama doesn’t need bangs and whistles. Just a great performance by a great cast with a story full of fruit. heart, pain and warmth. Sadly it’s over, only three episodes left’ enough.” “

The ending reveals that Mary came to start a new life on the island after deciding to find her biological mother earlier. While there, she discovers that she has inherited a house and soon builds her own new community of friends and love.

After learning this, Rosaline and Becca were also shocked to learn that their mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. It was later revealed that Mary had died of an overdose of morphine that authorities believed was self-inflicted after being given the drug by her close friend Cathy.

The two daughters eventually reconciled after years of separation, as Becca and her partner Jim decide to mend their romance, and Rosaline begins a romance with taxi driver Jacob.
