Matheesha Pathirana was born on Wednesday, December 18, 2002 in Kandy, Sri Lanka (age 21; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Sagittarius.
His family originated from Harispathua, Sri Lanka. Matheesha Pathirana started playing cricket at home when he was a child. In an interview, while talking about Patialana’s passion for cricket, his father Anura said:

Mathisha completed her primary education at Ranabima Royal College and started playing cricket for the school cricket team. Pathirana was fond of music since childhood and took music exams till Class VI. While in school, Mathesha was also involved in baseball, which helped him develop his bowling action. Initially, Patialana played for his school team as a batsman and bowler. His school coach saw potential in him and asked his father to enroll him in a cricket academy. Once, while playing for the school cricket team, Mathisha got an opportunity to play for the Kandy district school team and caught the attention of the inland cricket fans. Soon, his father enrolled him in Ketalama Fast Bowling Academy where he was trained by Chameela Gamache and several other cricket coaches. While he was training in Kaitalama, Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka fast bowling coach Chaminda Vaas met Mathisha’s father and asked him to admit Mathisha to a school in Colombo to improve her cricket skills. However, his father did not consider sending Madisha to Colombo, away from her family. However, several attempts to enroll him in St. Anthony’s College in Katugastota failed. Meanwhile, Trinity College Kandy invited Pattilana to join their school. He attended GCE OL and later joined the school. At school, he was a member of the school’s under-17 cricket team.

In April 2022, Chennai Super Kings signed him for the 2022 Indian Premier League for Rs. 2 million. He was included in the squad as a replacement for New Zealand cricketer Adam Milne.
