Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell Say They Want Kids but ‘Have a Few Steps Until Then’ (Exclusive)

Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell do not rule out the possibility of becoming parents in the future.

The Bachelor national couple spoke exclusively to PEOPLE at the SI Club party in Las Vegas during the F1 Grand Prix race, where they said they’re always looking ahead in their relationship.

When asked if they ever thought about marriage or children, Kirkconnell, 27, said: “I feel like we’re honestly talking about kids more than ever, but we’ve got a few steps to go before that.”

Kirkconnell and James (31) met for the first time during the filming of the 25th season Bachelor 2020, when James made history as the first black man to star in a series.

The couple broke up before the After the Final Rose special aired, but got back together shortly after.

At the 2021 ESPY Awards, Kirkconnell and James walked the red carpet together for the first time, and a month later, James and Kirkconnell opened up about their rekindled relationship, saying Extra, – It was a small trip.

As for the secret to their current long-term relationship, James told PEOPLE, “I think we do a good job of focusing on ourselves.” “I don’t think we stick to the rules or the game like some couples come off the show,” Kirkconnell added. “We just do our thing.”
