Matthew Perry dead at 54: Friends star dies after ‘drowning in jacuzzi’ as fans left in shock

ACTOR Matthew Perry has died at the age of 54 in an alleged drowning accident at his home.

The Friends star is believed to have been found unresponsive in a jacuzzi at a home in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Perry, who rose to fame playing Chandler Bing, is believed to have drowned, according to early TMZ reports.

Law enforcement sources told the newspaper that emergency services were initially called to the Los Angeles property for a cardiac arrest.

Sources also told TMZ that no drugs were found at the scene and foul play is not suspected at this time.

The outlet revealed that Perry returned home after a two-hour game of pickleball and sent his assistant on an errand shortly after.

Pickleball is a racket game played on a court the size of a quarter of a tennis court, with a lower net.

The game skyrocketed in popularity after a number of Hollywood celebrities started promoting it during the quarantine.

The aide was said to have returned about two hours later, where he found Perry unresponsive and called 911.

The US Sun witnessed Perry’s father looking distraught as he arrived in his car and spoke to officers before slowly walking back to his vehicle and being released under a cordon.

The American Sun also learned that investigators showed up at Perry’s mansion in Los Angeles around 7 p.m. local time and were waiting for the coroner.

The actor was last seen at The Apple Pan restaurant in Los Angeles.

He seemed depressed, despite being out with friends.

Perry’s latest Instagram post also showed her enjoying a dip in what appeared to be a jacuzzi.

The caption read: “Oh, so warm swirling water makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”

Prior to his death, Perry was believed to be single.

In December 2019, the American The Sun exclusively revealed that he was romantically involved with Molly Hurwitz.

Perry confirmed to People in 2020, “I’ve decided to get engaged.”

However, the relationship ended shortly after, with the star revealing to the newspaper that they broke up in June 2021.

PAYING TRIBUTE

Soon after news of his death broke, devastated fans flocked to social media to pay their respects to the departed star.

One person posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Please don’t tell me that Matthew Perry [news] is true.”

“Amazing. Rest in peace,” another fan responded.

A third user wrote: “RIP. That’s awful,” while another added: “No. Amazing, only 54! He was my favorite from Friends!”

Even longtime TV personality Piers Morgan reacted: “The Friends star was a great actor, but by his own admission, a very tortured guy.

“His recent autobiography about his life ravaged by addiction was one of the most powerful, honest and revealing I’ve ever read. Such sad news.”

Perry, who was born in Massachusetts but grew up in Canada, spent 10 seasons playing Chandler on Friends and was loved by viewers.

PERRY’S PAIN

In his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing: A Candid, Darkly Funny Book, The Longest Yard star opened up about his troubles.

He spoke candidly about his battle with addiction – something he’s been open about with fans for years.

In 2018, at the age of 49, he suffered a gastrointestinal perforation as a result of extreme opiate use.

He only had a two percent chance of survival after being in a coma for two weeks.

The entertainer had to use a colostomy bag until his colon healed.

Perry revealed that while his body was resting on the bag, he woke up covered in his own feces “50 to 60” times during the five months he was in the hospital.

“I had s**t all over my face, all over my body, in the next bed,” he admitted.

“When it breaks, it breaks. You need to get nurses.”

He also revealed that he had lost all of his top teeth amid his battle with addiction.

Perry revealed that at the height of his addiction, he was consuming about 55 Vicodin pills a day and weighed just 128 pounds.

He was in rehab, but continued to fight.
