Matthew Perry Shared Final Instagram Post from Hot Tub 5 Days Before His Death

Matthew Perry last posted on Instagram five days before his sudden death at the age of 54.

The Friends the actor shared a photo of himself in a hot tub at night on Monday, Oct. 23, writing in the caption, “Oh, so hot water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”

“Mattman” is the name he has used in recent days while posting on social media, often including references and images related to Batman.

The day before the hot tub photo, he wrote alongside a video of the moon: “Do you understand what I’m trying to tell you? – I’m Mattman.” And on Tuesday, Perry published on X, “Let’s make stigma stigma. -I’m Mattman #mentalhealth.”

But it wasn’t all Mattman: On October 15, Perry shared a rare photo of himself with his father, actor John Bennett Perry. “Here’s me and my dad John, both holding drinks,” he wrote in the caption, garnering hundreds of thousands of likes from followers.

TMZ first reported on Oct. 28, citing law enforcement sources, that Perry was found dead in a jacuzzi at a Los Angeles home. No drugs were found on the spot, the media added.

According to media reports, foul play was not suspected, and the emergency services were allegedly called to the apartment due to cardiac arrest.

Perry published a memoir titled Friends, lovers and the big scary thing in November 2022. He began the book by recounting the time he nearly died a few years ago at the age of 49 and was honest about his struggle with addiction.

The actor who famously played Chandler Bing in the beloved sitcom Friendsopened up about addiction in an extensive interview with PEOPLE in October 2022, also sharing his hopes for the future, including his desire to become a parent.

He said at the time about writing his book: “I wanted to share when I was safe from going back to the dark side of everything. I had to wait until I was pretty sure sober — and away from the active disease of alcoholism and addiction — to write it all down.”

“And most importantly, I was pretty sure it was going to help people,” Perry added.
