Maya started her professional softball career while attending Oaks Christian High School. She won the Los Angeles Daily News Player of the Year title with a batting average of .558 in a game. Due to her outstanding performance, the Flos Softball Association ranked her second in the country. She was a center fielder at Oaks Christian High School, but when she moved to UCLA and joined their softball team, she was assigned to right field. She had a batting average of .356, a slugging percentage of .699, and seven home runs.
