Maya Erskine and Michael Angarano’s Relationship: All About the Actors’ Marriage

Maya Erskine and Michael Angarano have marked many milestones since they first went public with their relationship in 2019.

Amidst their nominations at the 2019 Emmy Awards, This is us the actor became an official Instagram s PEN15 actress as he shared a cute photo of them sitting next to each other at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

“Ohhh look who’s sitting right behind me completely random at an awards show where we were both nominated who I’m also in love with 😭❤️💨,” he captioned the selfie at the time.

They have since had a baby boy named Leon Frederick and married privately. Although they kept their relationship low-key for years, they shared bits of their love on social media, sharing sweet tributes to each other and rooting for each other’s careers.

They became official Instagram in September 2019

After attending the 2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards together, Erskine and Angarano went public with their romance on Instagram as they both posted sweet tributes to each other.

With a selfie of them sitting close to each other during the ceremony, Sky high alum captioned a photo of him and Erskine, “ohhh look who’s sitting right behind me totally random at an awards show where we were both nominated who I’m in love with too 😭❤️💨.” In the meantime, Mr. and Mrs. Smith star shared the same photo with the caption: “Look who was sitting right in front of me. I ❤️ you.”

That same month, they continued to make public appearances as they stepped out at various awards parties and eventually followed each other to the 2019 Emmys, which Angarano shared a photo of on Instagram.

They previously shared the screen on PEN15

The following year, Angarano guest-starred on Erskine’s hit series PEN15, in which she and her co-star Anna Konkle play 13-year-old versions of themselves. Angarano appeared in two episodes as a character named Greg who directs a school play of Erskine’s character.

They announced they were expecting and got engaged at the same time

In November 2020, Erskine and Angarano made a surprise announcement that they were engaged and expecting their first child together. Along with a photo of him hugging Erksine’s baby bump, Angarano wrote on Instagram: “And then there were 3… also, we’re engaged.”

During the interview with Vogue published in May 2021, Erskine shared more details about her pregnancy, which happened around the same time as her PEN15 costar and co-creator of Konkle.

“I found out at Michael’s parents’ house at the end of July,” Erskine told the publication. “I said [Konkle] that Michael and I were going to start trying and then we told her in person, socially distanced in the park, and then we told all our friends in the ocean as the wave washed over us – again, socially distanced on the beach. It was very dramatic.”

They had their first child in May 2021

Not long after her interview with VogueErskine gave birth to a boy named Leon Frederick in May 2021. After Voguepublished interview, Konkle called Erskine an “amazing mom” as she wished her colleague a happy birthday.

Angarano applauded Erskine for being a great mother to their son as her hit series PEN15 announced its final season. “You are amazing… as an actor, writer, host, director and mom,” he wrote alongside a photo of the actress with their newborn in her trailer. “We love you and are very grateful that you are in our lives (I speak for myself and Leon).”

They are acting together in a new film

After briefly sharing the small screen together on PEN15the two will be sharing the screen in an upcoming project titled Sacramento. The road trip comedy was first announced in April 2023 and will star Angarano, Erskine, Michael Cera and Kristen Stewart, the latter of whom was in a relationship with Angarano from 2005 to 2009. In addition to acting, Angarano is also directing a feature film and co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Smith.

Although the couple did not publicly reveal when they married, Erskine openly referred to Angaran as her husband during various media interviews for her series Mr. and Mrs. Smith in February 2024.

While appearing on Today Erskine and her co-star Donald Glover shared how their off-screen marriages played a role in the development of their characters’ on-screen marriages. Glover explained, “There’s a lot of little things about it where I thought, ‘This is me and my wife doing this.’ And you said, ‘Yeah, me and my husband kind of…'”
