Maya Rudolph Jokes She 'Never Left' Saturday Night Live as She Emerges from On-Set Closet to Host

Saturday night live The spirit of alum Maya Rudolph has never left the hallowed halls of Studio 8H — literally.

Ahead of her return to the sketch comedy show as host on May 11, current cast members Andrew Dismukes and Chloe Troast caught up with the actress, 51, in her humble antics in a promotional video.

As Dismukes and Troast talk as they walk down the hall, they stop in front of a supply closet that seems to be the source of mysterious laughter and flashing lights.

– Wait, did you hear that? Dismukes asks to which Troast replies, “Yeah, I never noticed that door before.”

When curiosity gets the better of them and Dismukes opens the door, they find a surprised Rudolph dressed as a colonial woman eating a bowl of porridge. In his closet, Rudolph arranged the space with pillows, candles, a lamp and a bookshelf.

“Maja, is that you?” Dismukes asks confused.

“Oh, hello,” the Spoil the star replies as she smooths her hair. – I wasn’t expecting visitors.

After Troast asks how long she’s been living in the closet, Rudolph jokingly reveals that she never left after coming out SNL in 2007.

“I’ve been here since 2007. I’ve never left. Why would I? I have everything I need here. My books, my porridge. And my dear friend Kenny,” she continues, gesturing to the cloth looking at the standing gaze. upright.

When Troast informs her that she is the host this week, Rudolph asks the duo to close the door and give her a few minutes to “freshen up”. Right after the door closes, Rudolph appears calm, cool and collected dressed in a black and white suit.

“I’ll see you on Saturday!” she tells the duo as they flinch at her unexpected appearance.

Rudolph, who will appear alongside musical guest Vampire Weekend, made it SNL she debuted in 2001 before leaving the show in 2007. Despite her departure, she continues to make occasional appearances while occasionally hosting the show.
