Maya Rudolph and her partner, director Paul Thomas Anderson, have four children: Pearl, Lucille, Jack and Minnie.
The couple has reportedly been together since 2001. Although Rudolph and Anderson are not married, the actress has called him her husband since the birth of their first child.
“People know what [husband] means,” she said The New York Times in 2018. “That means he’s the father of my child, and I live with him, and we’re a couple, and we’re not going anywhere.”
In conversation with PopSugar that same year, Spoil the star reflected on how she became a mother and how the experience changed her outlook on life.
“When you think of another human being that you see as being much more precious than you and you have an instinct to take care of them, you naturally do what’s right and what’s important, and that always comes first,” Rudolph explained.

Throughout her pregnancy and motherhood, she continued to work actively in Hollywood. However, she said “there’s no such thing” as finding the perfect balance between your work and personal life.
“When I started having children, I didn’t stop working,” she said. “I would rest, of course, but I didn’t change my creative life.”
The Good place The alum added: “As a working mum, I do the best I can and try to enjoy it. I try to do well.”

Pearl Anderson, 19

The actress gave birth in the middle of the season Saturday night liveon which she starred from 2000 to 2007. At the time, Tina Fey broke the news about “Little Peanut” during Weekend Update segment.
After Pearl was born, Rudolph said she and Anderson “were really lucky” with their daughter, whom she called “exceptional.”
While she was still breastfeeding, Pearl would fly to New York with her mother SNL. “She’s just a world-class traveler,” Rudolph said Bust magazine in 2006. “She does well on the plane and is friendly. It’s really hilarious to see her with strangers; she smiles at everyone. She’s a sweet lady.”
Before welcoming Pearl, Rudolph was completely “committed Saturday night live,” she told NPR in 2012. “It’s really hard to be there for anyone else in your life when you’re on the show because of the hours it takes,” the comedian added.
After seven years on the show, Rudolph left SNL when her first born was 2 years old. In 2017, it opened Parade about her decision to leave the iconic sketch comedy show.
“When I had my daughter, it was the right time to leave,” she told the newspaper. “It’s hard to work on a late-night comedy show and have a kid. I did and I wouldn’t trade it for anything, but I wouldn’t really recommend it.”
As her older daughter grew, Rudolph began to notice similarities between their personalities. In an interview conducted by John Krasinski for BlackBook In 2009, the actor said that Pearl was “the coolest girl I’ve ever met,” which didn’t surprise the actress that much.
“Let’s put it this way: If she came out like a complete moron and said something like, ‘I hate reading and I don’t like performing,’ then I would be like, ‘That’s not my kid,'” Rudolph joked. “So I’m not really surprised by what she says : ‘Hey, I’m funny and I like to socialize.’ ”
Rudolph tries to keep his personal life private and does not appear in public with his four children or post photos of them on social media.
However, the actress has shared stories about her children in interviews, including how Pearl reacted when she saw her work. In 2016, Rudolph told PEOPLE that Pearl was “very proud” of her.

The time of her arrival caught the actress and the director unprepared and they did not arrive at the hospital. “[A home birth] it wasn’t my plan, but it happened … because the baby came out very quickly,” Rudolph said Chelsea lately 2011 “It was scary, but it was kind of great.”
Rudolph announced that she is expecting her second child in an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada. She noted that her pregnancy with Pearl helped prepare her for her second: “The first time you’re like wide-eyed: ‘What are we doing? who comes How do we take care of them?’ But this time I say: ‘I have to sit down, I’m pregnant.’ ”
In March 2021, Pearl, Lucille and their younger siblings, Jack and Minnie, went to Studio 8H when their mom hosted SNL. Rudolph announced their presence during her monologue, telling the audience, “I have four amazing children and they’re all here tonight. Don’t make me cry.”
“Just a warning to my kids, mom is going to be wearing a lot of wigs tonight, okay?” the bridesmaids star added. “And making lots of weird noises so it’ll be like a typical day at home, I’ll just wear a bra.”
Although he keeps his children out of the spotlight, Rudolph nurtures their creative talents, including their musical abilities.
“I think they have a musical gift and they don’t realize how great they are, so they kind of keep it to themselves,” she said Late Night with Seth Meyers 2022. “I make them all play, to take piano lessons.”
All four of Rudolph’s children also appeared in their dad’s 2021 film Licorice pizzawhich the actress told Meyers was partly due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We attended the Zoom school and it was terrible,” she said. “It made this amazing experience possible where my kids, their friends, their friends’ parents, my parents, my nanny — they were all in it for me. We were everywhere, so we had a small world.”

Much like they did for Pearl and Lucille, the couple chose not to find out the gender of their child ahead of time. Before they welcomed Jack, Rudolph said Access to Hollywood she was “excited” to keep it a secret.
“The exciting part is not knowing who’s coming,” she said. “You have to wait nine months for a surprise, but then it’s a good payoff because it’s a real surprise.”
After Jack was born, Rudolph described herself as “a bit of a pro” when it came to pregnancy and childbirth. Although she said there were things she was “scared” of when she was a new mom, those worries have since dissipated.
“We didn’t even have a car seat until the third child,” she joked to PEOPLE.
During the appearance at the 2015 ConanRudolph told host Conan O’Brien that Turner Classic Movies is on at all times in her house to “get it into the kids’ minds” and to learn the terminology. Jack was most interested in classic movies, she noted.
“I’m going to make breakfast, I look, and my four-year-old son is just looking at it, and it’s a beautiful lady talking to someone and smoking a cigarette,” she said. “And I wonder what my son is thinking?”
Minnie Ida Anderson, 11

The couple’s youngest daughter was named after Rudolph’s late mother, singer Minnie Riperton, who died on July 12, 1979, when the actress was 6 years old.
Less than two years after welcoming Minnie, PEOPLE asked Rudolph if he envisions more children. “Hell no,” she said. “I would be crazy if that happened! I’d be crazy!”
Rudolph may be a big star in Hollywood, but her kids prefer her attention at home. In 2016, the actress told PEOPLE that her kids often tell her to “sit down and watch” when they put on plays in their living room.

“He’ll dance to anything,” she said. “These are natural hams.”
Still, Rudolph can’t wait to show them her projects, including the ones where she played the villain Disappointed. “My kids are the biggest Disney fans,” she told PEOPLE in 2022. “And so am I. I think they’re going to love it.”
In addition to their musical abilities and new acting skills, the Rudolph children have another interest in the kitchen.
“My kids love to bake,” she told PEOPLE in 2021. “I wish I was more of a baker, but there’s a lot of inventive baking in my home, especially with my younger kids, which is usually my favorite.”
