McDonald’s collectors, get ready to party.
The fast food chain has announced plans to launch a “Collector’s Meal” on August 13. The limited-time meal combines classic McDonald’s staples with one of six collectible mugs, each decorated with nostalgic references.
The plastic cups are filled with images of beloved characters, including Barbie and Hot Wheels, Beanie Babies, Coca-Cola Polar Bears, Hello Kitty and Peanuts, McDonald’s mascots and a combination of Shrek, Jurassic Park and Minions.

Plus, if you look closely at each cup, there are illustrations of collectibles given away in past Happy Meals. The Shrek, Jurassic Park and Minions mug has a picture of the Gingerbread Man clock that was available in 2010. Shrek Forever After. The Barbie mug features images of dolls that have been sold over the years, such as 1999’s Pet Lovin’ Barbie.
In order to get a cup, customers must order a “Collector’s Meal”, which is available in several varieties. At breakfast, the “Collector’s Meal” includes a Sausage and Egg McMuffin, hash brown and hot coffee with a single plastic cup. During the rest of the day, fans get a cup with a choice of 10 McNuggets or a Big Mac with fries and a soft drink.

“These new collectible mugs commemorate some of our most memorable designs and global collaborations over the years, allowing longtime fans to relive precious moments and helping a new generation create their own lasting memories,” said McDonald’s Morgan Flatley.

The “Collector’s Meal” will be available starting August 13 when ordering in-store, online or via the app.
McDonald’s also taps into nostalgia with its Happy Meal toys. In December, after 25 years off the market, the restaurant chain brought back McNugget Buddies.

The chicken nugget toys were first introduced back in 1988, and have returned in six different outfits and backstories. New York-based artist Kerwin Frost helped design the mascots and come up with the meal paired with the animated toys.
Before that, in October 2023, McDonald’s reintroduced its Halloween-themed buckets: Boo Buckets. The trick-or-treat containers officially returned in mid-October, after being introduced in 1986 and brought back in 2016 and 2022.
