Shaun White is a former snowboarder and skateboarder from San Diego, California. His parents, Cathy and Roger, gave birth to him there. Shaun comes from a family with three siblings, of which he is the youngest. His mother, Cathy, worked as a waitress, while his father, a surfer, worked for the water department in San Clemente, California. Shaun’s older brother, Jesse White, who is seven years older than him, played an important role in his life by teaching him to snowboard. Shaun White switched from skiing to snowboarding at the age of six, inspired by the track of his older brother Jesse White.
He got his first sponsorship when he was seven years old. During his career, White has competed in five Olympic Winter Games, winning three Olympic gold medals in snowboard halfpipe in 2006, 2010 and 2018. He holds the world record for most X Games gold medals and most Olympic gold medals among snowboarders, and his reputation is well-deserved. In addition, he received 10 ESPY awards in different categories, showing his talent and perseverance.
Shaun White’s Parents: Who Are They?
Shaun White was born in San Diego, California on September 3, 1986 to Roger and Cathy White. White grew up with two older siblings, Jesse and Kari, who both snowboarded as youngsters. White’s parents initially opposed Shaun’s decision to pursue a career in snowboarding, but have now become Shaun’s staunchest supporters.
Roger White, Shaun White’s father, worked at the San Clemente Water Department, The New York Times reports. He grew up in Coronado, California and enjoyed surfing at Imperial Beach and Del Mar. He spent a lot of time surfing in Santa Cruz, California after graduating from Coronado High School and attending Monterey Peninsula College. Roger hoped that Shaun would follow in his footsteps and become a surfer, but Shaun followed his path and eventually made a successful career doing what he loved.
Cathy White, White’s mother, was against snowboarding. Shaun started skiing and snowboarding at a young age, following in his brother’s footsteps. However, his mother, Cathy, was against Sport because she was concerned that Shaun could be seriously injured. Furthermore, Shaun was born with a congenital heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot, which required him to undergo two open-heart surgeries before the age of one. Cathy was concerned about his decision to take up snowboarding as a profession due to his health problems. However, in the end she accepted his wish and supported his path. She is now his biggest fan, constantly rooting for him and offering her endless support.
His brother Jesse first taught him to ride a skateboard
Jesse White, Shaun White’s brother, was the one who first introduced him to skateboarding. Shaun followed in his older brother’s footsteps and became an excellent snowboarder. Despite his childhood love of snowboarding, Jesse currently works as Creative Director at Whitespace by Shaun White. The gifted young man is now a married man with two boys. On October 13, 2018, he married Dominique Alexandra White.
