Meet the ‘Chief Dog Officer’ on Royal Caribbean’s New Ship — a Puppy Named Rover

Rover is having fun — really! The golden retriever is the furriest member of the crew on Royal Caribbean new Icon of the sea cruiser.

The 5-month-old pup has been taking daily walks and socializing with his handler Alison Hubble and Captain Henrik Loy ahead of the ship’s first public voyage to the Caribbean from Miami on January 27.

“Alison is always by Rover’s side to make every day fun and to make sure she gets enough sleep and never misses a treat,” Royal Caribbean said in an Instagram video.

“Rover’s job is to bring joy and happiness to its crew members and guests on board,” the video continues. “Rover already felt at home.”

Rover will have enough space to walk and play Icon of the sea it is 1,198 feet long, making it the largest cruise ship in the world.

In perspective of that size, the ship is almost three and a half football fields long and can accommodate up to 5,610 guests.

Dubbed “everyone’s favorite new crew member” of the 2,350-strong crew, Rover will also spend time away from the ship to explore shores and ports throughout the eastern or western Caribbean, as well as Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at Coco Cay, in the Bahamas.

Icon of the sea it also includes seven swimming pools, six water slides as well as more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges, where guests can catch a glimpse of the Rover.

The prospect of meeting Rover has already attracted some people to want to book a cruise on the ship, with one Instagram user saying: “That’s it, I’m booking. I just need to meet this cute puppy on board.”
