Meg Ryan may be known as the queen of 90s rom-coms, but she’s also the proud mom of two, son Jack Quaid and daughter Daisy True Ryan.
The What happens later actress and actor Dennis Quaid welcomed Jack in 1992. Ryan and Quaid were married for 10 years before their divorce was finalized in 2001. Ryan later adopted her daughter Daisy, born in 2004, from China in 2006.
The following year she shared with The Red Book how she felt to grow her family.
“I just can’t imagine what it was like before she came,” she said of Daisy. “Life is good, it’s so good with her in it. She and Jack get along great. We all get along beautifully.”
Jack followed his parents into acting. Ryan directed his son in 2015 Ithaca and credited her children with helping her try her hand at the world behind the camera.
“[Motherhood has changed me] basically,” she told PEOPLE in October 2016. “I have two kids … and I think that part of my life has served me [ability] to direct the best.”

In an October 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Ryan gushed about her grown children.
“I have two of the best kids,” she said. “They’re hilarious, they’re smart, they’re kind, they’re interested in other people, they’re curious about the world. I feel like they’re both making the world a little bit better and I’m just proud of them.”

Jack Henry Quaid was born in Los Angeles on April 24, 1992. His parents, Ryan and Quaid, had been married for a year at the time of his birth, but separated in 2000. Their divorce was finalized the following year when Jack was 9.
As a child, Jack often went with them on movie sets, and he recalled spending time in Austin, Texas while his dad was filming the 2002 movie. Novice.
“I’d go to the field a lot with my parents,” Jack told PEOPLE in January 2022. “I didn’t take any pointers or anything like that. The kid can’t handle how slow the set moves, so I’d watch a few take and then go to the truck to craft services and try to steal all the sweets they can!”
Although it is Solo Star knew what his parents did for a living and how it affected his upbringing, he never felt the need to “escape” their careers.
“I fully admit that the way I grew up was not normal,” he said Reportedly with Theo Von and Matthew Cole Weiss podcast in March 2016. “But at the same time, it was normal in the sense that despite what my parents were doing, they were still mom and dad.”

Jack attended the Crossroads School in Santa Monica, California and was president of the Bad Movie Club before attending New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. During his three years at NYU (where his mom was enrolled as a student), Jack studied in the Experimental Theater Wing of Tisch and was a member of the sketch comedy group Hammerkatz.
He continued to hone his comedy skills after college, co-founding the four-member Sasquatch Sketch Comedy Team in 2013.
Dennis’ agent even wanted to represent Jack, but the budding actor decided to go into the industry on his own. “When he said he was ready to act, I told him I would help him, and of course he’s Meg Ryan’s son, but he said, ‘No, I want to do it myself,'” Quaid told PEOPLE in March 2018.
Getting your own agent pays off — Jack made his acting debut in 2012 The Hunger Games. Three years later, he appeared in his mother’s directorial debut, Ithaca.
“No one knows you better than your mom, so it was perfect,” Jack said WWD to be directed by his mother. “Our shorthand is incredible. I tried to kind of keep it professional.”
Jack appeared on the HBO period drama Vinyl (2016) and in the comedy Heist film Logan Lucky (2017) before landing his breakthrough role as Hughie Campbell on Prime Video Boys (2019-present). His recent roles include animated series Star Trek: The Lower Decks and a movie from 2020 Scream. Next, he’s set to star in a sci-fi thriller Companion and action comedy Heads of state.

Jack told PEOPLE in 2022 that his parents don’t give him acting advice, but they are very supportive of his career.
“Luckily, I grew up saying, ‘Hey, I want to be an actor,’ and they understood that … and supported me in that,” he said.
As for whether he’s more like one of his famous parents than the other, Ryan said The Red Book that Jack is “as different from me as Daisy is” and “as different from his father”.
“He’s his own man, and kids come that way, no matter how you get them,” she said. “The lottery is the same with your own biological children as it is with an adopted child halfway around the world.”
Jack keeps his romantic life relatively private. He was last connected to his Boys costar Claudia Doumit. The two were seen holding hands in Sydney in June 2022, according to The Daily Mail. Doumit previously dated actress Lizzy McGroder and director Tayler Vee Robinson.
In addition to his younger sister Daisy, Jack also has two half-brothers, twins Thomas and Zoe, from his father’s third marriage with wife Kimberly Buffington, which was dissolved in 2016. (Quaid and his fourth wife, Laura Savoie, eloped in 2020.)

Daisy True Ryan was born in China in 2004, and Ryan adopted her in early 2006.
The When Harry met Sally said the star Los Angeles Times in September 2008 which she “always thought” she would adopt and described the process as a “deliberate act”.
“[Adoption] it taught me a lot about all the expectations you have in life. Just throw them away. Get them out,” Ryan told the publication.
Daisy was originally called Charlotte True, but Ryan explained further The Late Show with David Letterman that the nickname didn’t quite suit her. It took me a while to get to know her, she said. “[Daisy]I’m a really ridiculously happy person and it was the happiest name I could come up with.”

When Daisy was 3, Ryan said Access to Hollywood that raising her toddler was a “great experience.”
“And she’s a great brain, that kid. And she is in charge, very in charge,” she said.
The actress raised Daisy as a single mother, which she noted had its ups and downs. During an In Goop Health event in Los Angeles in June 2018, Ryan said, according to E! News, “I know I’m really her reference, for better or for worse, and I’m glad she has other influences. One thing that’s nice is that you don’t get outvoted.”

After older brother Jack graduated from high school, Daisy and Ryan moved from Los Angeles to New York, where Daisy spent her growing up years.
In 2019, Ryan said The New York Times that the mother-daughter duo enjoys classic movie marathons. “I show my daughter all kinds of romantic comedies,” she said. “We did the Frank Capra thing over Christmas: It happened one night and Mr. Smith is going to Washington.
Daisy is currently attending Smith College in Massachusetts. “I visit probably more than I should,” Ryan admitted to PEOPLE in October 2023.
