Megan Stalter Tells Us All About Playing a Sexy Devil in e.l.f. Skin's Hilarious New Campaign

Is wearing a range of hair accessories to play the queen of blind trust, Kayla, in the hit series Hacksor rocking a leopard fur coat and a twinkle in his eye as the charming but chaotic musician in the film Cora Bora, Megan Stalter knows how to put her wardrobe to work on screen. And her latest appearance in the new elf Skin campaign is no exception. “I really liked the look we created. It was sexy and playful and different,” Stalter says of the red leather outfit (complete with hair horns) she wore to play the “sinfluencer” in the video. “She’s sassy and goes out for a night.” (For the record, Stalter says she would wear that look in real life, minus the horns.)

The group wasn’t the only thing the actress, 33, loved about collaborating with the beauty brand on a campaign that encourages people to commit sins like picking pimples and buying expensive skin care gadgets.

“It was so much fun. I feel so happy. They have such a good sense of humor,” she says. “I have been using Elf products since I was a nanny. They are so affordable, but also really, really good, amazing quality.”

While overspending on beauty products isn’t one of her skin sins, Stalter admits she’s guilty of another common temptation. “I definitely knew how to sleep with makeup on,” she says. “In the past, I didn’t really see the fun in skin care and I didn’t know as much about it and how important it is.” These days, she sticks to a nightly routine of cleansing and moisturizing with products that make her skin care “easy and fun” like her two favorites: Elf Skin Holy Hydration! Cleansing balm that melts makeup to remove makeup and Holy hydration! Fragrance-free face cream.

When it comes to looking glamorous for red carpet events, Stalter and her stylist first design her outfit, then consult on hair and makeup.

Stalter likes to experiment with different looks, which she does with hers Hacks character. “Kayla’s makeup is the makeup I do. I love a lot of colored eyeliners. It’s the same with her clothes. I love every thing she wears. It’s a different version of me if I worked in an office and was more funky.”

Her next role in Lena Dunham’s semi-autobiographical comedy series Too muchit slightly pushes her out of her beauty comfort zone. She plays Jessica (the fictional version of Dunham) and wears a short, curly wig.

“Once I put it on, I’m like, okay, I’m literally her,” she says of her transformation. “I don’t feel like myself in it, which is cool because I’m playing someone else.”
