Meghan made ‘ridiculous’ mistake hours before Trooping the Colour – her PRs would NEVER have agreed, claims expert – The Sun

MEGHAN Markle made a “ridiculous” mistake hours before Trooping the Colour, a royal expert has said.

The Duchess of Sussex (42) caused controversy after the “very, very strange” move of the American Riviera Orchard – PRs would have warned her about it.

Just hours before the main royal event, Trooping the Colour, Meg decided to launch two new American Riviera Orchard products.

Harry’s polo pal Nacho Figueras shared a photo on Instagram of his luxurious raspberry jam and some dog biscuits sent by the former Suits actress.

Meanwhile, hubby Harry failed to acknowledge King Charles’ official birthday on Saturday – and seemingly ignored Father’s Day.

In stark contrast, Prince William posted a touching photo of himself as a child with Charles in a show of support amid his ongoing and brave health battles.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun about Meghan’s ill-timed brand launch, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said: “Megan and Harry know perfectly well that everything they do is followed by the media.

“The idea that they would do something on Trooping the Color day. I mean, it’s pretty stupid.

Duty and family mean everything to Kate

By ARTHUR EDWARDS, Sun Royal photographer

The royals were one big happy family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace as the Princess of Wales made an emotional appearance.

This was a brave return to public life for Catherine, who had been battling cancer for the past three months.

She didn’t have to be in Trooping the Color and no one would blame her for staying away.

But she still decided to participate.

It is a measure of how much her duty and family mean to her.

I have not seen the Princess of Wales in person since her last public engagement at Christmas, more than six months ago.

Yesterday she looked very well and, most importantly, very healthy.

While the photo released by Kensington Palace on Friday was a festive snap, Catherine was beaming with joy yesterday – her smile sure to warm the hearts of the nation.

Accompanied by William, who was single-handedly supporting his ailing wife and her adorable children, the whole group looked relaxed and united on one of the most important days of the year for the royal family.

It was also nice to see Catherine exchanging words with her father-in-law King Charles.

They both fought hard to return to their duties, and even through the long lens you can see that they have a genuine warmth for each other.

The only drawback was the classic British weather.

It was cold.

It was wet.

My jacket and camera were wet.

Next Thursday will be the longest day of the year, but the heavy rain has made me feel like I’m in the middle of January.

However, the moment the princess appeared to wave and smile, it was worth enduring the downpour.

There were plenty of elegant outfits on display – it was a military parade after all – but the Princess of Wales’ stunning white dress was a cut above the rest.

Almost all the cameras there were pointed at her and she chose a dress with exceptional taste that could be seen by thousands of well-wishers in The Mall.

This was a remarkable comeback by a remarkable woman and I’m sure it would mean the world to have her family by her side.

So it’s no surprise that she didn’t stop smiling the whole time.

“I mean, it’s kind of a conflict. What was done was just stupid. We know that in March, Meghan launched American Riviera Orchard.

“We know she sent about 50 jars of strawberry jam to some of her friends and influencers, she had a few referrals, but this was not very impressive.

“There weren’t many A-listers who said how wonderful it was.

“What’s so weird is that she even did anything on Trooping the Color day, it doesn’t make any sense.

These are unprecedented times – but the King and Kate stand side by side to prove they are fighting together, royal expert

“The label on the jar said two out of two, if they’re only going to send two jars, what’s the point?”

“I don’t think it’s meant to be. This makes no public relations sense. It’s ridiculous.”

‘HE NEVER CARED’

Mr Fitzwilliams added that the Duke and Duchess were known for being disruptive and distracting from royal events.

The Sussexes have never cared about royal protocol, so you don’t have a diary conflict, the expert said.

“Meghan wouldn’t be advised this by any of her PR consultants. This is a joke.

“That’s very, very strange. If she just sent the jam to a friend, she should have asked him not to publish it, because otherwise he’s clearly making them a subject of ridicule.”

A royal commentator added that it was a “strange” choice amid constant “pressure” from the royal family.

“The official birthday of Harry’s father, who is battling cancer.

“And because this was so significant Catherine was able to watch the parade from her office at the Horse Guards, and also appear on the balcony, and to undergo preventative chemotherapy for cancer.

“So you can’t understand what the Sussexes did. They should have just kept quiet.”

SILENCE FATHER’S DAY

Meanwhile, Harry also failed to share a message to his father on the special Sunday, as brother Wills uploaded a sweet post.

King Charles similarly posted an adorable photo of himself as a baby with his father Prince Philip.

However, Mr Fitzwilliams suggested Charles would feel “indifferent” if he didn’t get Father’s Day support from his “willful” son.

He claimed the royal family had more important priorities than dealing with the Harry and Meghan drama.

“Greeting or not, this is how individuals treat each other,” the commentator added.

“It was recently put under the microscope, and I think it was very, very strange.

“We know that Harry will be appealing the security issues and it is possible that there will be further court appearances.

ORCHARD OF THE AMERICAN RIVIERA

By Becky Pemberton

MEGHAN Markle is about to launch her American Riviera Orchard brand and could market herself as “America’s Nigella Lawson”, according to a branding expert.

However, the Duchess of Sussex, 42, could face some challenges as she tries to create a “domestic kitchen goddess” image across the pond.

Professor Pauline Maclaran, professor of marketing and consumer research at Royal Holloway, University of London, told the BBC: “I would see this as a much more domestic type of pox market.

“Now with these new royal connections and, you know, promoting elegance.”

Professor Maclaran claims Meghan is positioning herself as the next Nigella Lawson and Martha Stewart.

One problem Meghan might face is that although she shared recipes on her now-defunct blog The Tig, the former Suits actress isn’t necessarily known for her cooking and doesn’t technically have any formal training as a chef.

Royal author Phil Dampier told Fabulous: “Meghan has no experience as a top chef so she would struggle to be California’s Nigella Lawson.

“There is a danger that you can spread yourself too thin by doing several things, none of which are good. Meghan is known as an actress so people might not take her seriously in the kitchen.

“To be fair, she wouldn’t be the first celebrity to decide to cash in on cooking shows for the masses despite not having much experience.”

But maybe formal cooking training isn’t important.

“But nothing came of it, so we’ll just have to wait and see what his intentions are.

“But the relationship the Sussexes have with the media is sometimes too close, for example Harry speaking to Good Morning America after visiting Charles in February.

“The Sussexes object to the way the media covers them.

“But, my God, if you look at the way they’ve used the media in recent years. I mean, it’s been ruthless at times.”
