Joy Behar, co-host of the show ‘The View’, caused an unexpected reaction from Matthew McConaughey during their conversation. His answer caught many off guard.

Matthew McConaughey, a vocal advocate for responsible gun ownership, responded firmly to The View’s Joy Behar when she pressed him about Texas and anti-gun laws.

Immediately after rubbing her foot, Behar asked him what his stance on guns was, prompting him to make a direct statement.

In May 2022, the Uvalde, Texas, elementary school shooting hit McConaughey, who was born in the city, not far from home.

After the tragedy, which killed 19 students and two teachers, McConaughey joined a White House briefing, advocating for stricter gun regulations, including background checks and raising the minimum age to purchase certain firearms.

He emphasized the need for responsible ownership and criticized the abuse of the Second Amendment by some individuals. McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, subsequently launched the Greenlights Grant Initiative to improve school safety and child well-being.

During an appearance on The View in the fall of 2023, while promoting his children’s book, McConaughey discussed his views on gun violence and politics.

Behar’s question about his ability to run in Texas if he opposes gun rights seemed to hit a nerve, and McConaughey said he wasn’t interested in political games.

Hostin tried to clarify McConaughey’s position as being pro-gun accountability and legislation, not anti-gun.
