Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Wrap Up Nigeria Trip with Glam Polo Club Reception

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry headed to a familiar spot for the final outing of their last day in Nigeria: the polo field!

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the prestigious Lagos Polo Club for a reception in aid of Unconquered Nigeria. Founded in 1904, Lagos Polo Club is one of the oldest and most respected social clubs in Nigeria, known for its vibrant equestrian culture and polo tournaments.

The couple put on a glamorous show, with Meghan opting for a halter print cream dress by Johanna Ortiz, Burberry sandals and her Heidi Merrick ‘Santa Barbara’ sunglasses. Harry wore a button down under a dark jacket and matching trousers.

Shortly after arriving, Harry and Meghan settled into their seats in the stands and enjoyed the pre-match parade. Children dressed in polo gear, carrying the green and white flag of Nigeria, took part in the procession. They were followed by a group of older children riding on horses.

Two teams were then introduced, Duke vs. Duchess. The match ended with a score of 5-3 in favor of Duchessa’s team. After the match, Meghan and Harry presented medals to the players, and Harry gave an impromptu speech in which he expressed his gratitude for the hospitality at the club and all of Nigeria.

For Harry, polo holds a special place as he has a long history with the sport, often taking part in charity matches and supporting various polo-related initiatives. He is currently working on a Netflix series that delves into the world of sex, depicting its rich history and cultural significance.

With Nigeria recently joining Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, the event served as a platform to raise awareness and funds for the country’s athletes, highlighting the transformative impact of sport on their journey of recovery and resilience.

As a former captain in the British Armed Forces and founder of the Invictus Games, an international adaptive sports tournament for wounded, injured and ill servicemen, Harry has long had a passion for advocating for veterans and their families.

Speaking at a reception for military families in Abuja on May 11, Harry acknowledged the “tragic loss of brave souls” who lost their lives in the country’s recent conflicts.

“It reminds us of the truth of service and the deep impact of conflicts between children, families and nations. My deepest condolences to all the families,” he said, adding: “As we look forward, let us remember that with a united effort we could make significant progress in recognizing the sacrifices of so many of our military personnel and, importantly, their families. Offering support for their rehabilitation and recovery.”
