Phoebe Cates and Kevin Kline's 2 Kids: All About Owen and Greta Kline

Phoebe Cates and Kevin Kline have been in the entertainment industry for decades, but they are also parents to two children: Owen and Greta.

They recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary, but have been together since meeting at an audition in 1982. The couple married in a small wedding in March 1989 and raised their children on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

“I was 40 when I finally stopped being obsessed with acting and thought it would be nice to have a life and I actually got married,” Kevin said. Guard In 2014, he also talked about the couple’s 16-year age difference. “If I had married someone my own age, the possibility of offspring would have been very slim. I didn’t consciously say, ‘Hey, we could have kids; do you want to get married?’ It just happened that way.”

Kline has acting credits dating back to the 1970s and has starred in films including Great cold and A fish called Wandafor which the latter won an Oscar in 1989. Cates is best known for her roles in films from the 1980s Fast times at Ridgemont High and Gremlinsbut she stepped away from the spotlight to raise Owen and Greta.

“We agreed to take turns so we never work at the same time,” Kline said Playboy 1998 (via Entertainment Weekly). “[But] Whenever she had time to work, Phoebe chose to stay with the children.”

Owen and Greta are now in their thirties and have both entered the entertainment industry — Owen is a director, actor and comic book artist, and Greta is a musician and singer-songwriter.

In 2015, Kevin told Parade that the whole family tries to get together for dinner at least once a week. “The children did not banish us from their lives,” he added.

Owen Joseph Kline, 32

Cates and Kline’s oldest child, Owen Joseph Kline, was born on October 14, 1991.

After an early interest in comics, he went on to study film and illustration at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

As an actor, Owen is best known for his role as Frank Berkman in the 2005 hit film Squid and whaleand he acted alongside his parents and sister in the 2001 film Anniversary celebration.

Owen went back to school after that Squid and whale, saying Guard in 2022, “I never wanted to be in the industry.”

“Being a child actor seemed like a hell of a path and a quick way to embarrass yourself,” he added.

He eventually moved into directing, his history as a cartoonist merging with his love of film in his directorial debut. Film produced by A24 Funny pageswhich Owen related Guard it was 10 years in the making, and premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

“I always made little short films as a kid, and I also drew comics, but what they both had in common was humor,” he said at a promotional event in October 2022.

Owen continued: “When I was a very young kid – 8, 9, 10 years old – I just wanted something that went past peanut or Garfield or something similar in the newspaper. I was really just focused on three-panel, four-panel comics and creating.”

He then told how he was inspired by his childhood interests Funny pagessaying, “I just thought that a story about a cartoonist, in a way, sort of trying to exaggerate a world that’s becoming more and more extreme, would be compelling.”

In 2022, Owen spoke with Guard about what his mom and dad were like,”So supporting” his film. He added, “They wanted me so badly to figure out a way to make my own film.”

When it comes to fame and being in the limelight, Owen’s views haven’t changed much since his early years.

“I’ve always railed against show business,” Owen told Indiewire in August 2022. “I’ve always found it disgusting. I’m really someone who is resistant to showing my face in general.”

Greta Simone Kline, 30

Cates and Kline’s second child, Greta Simone Kline, was born on March 21, 1994.

She is a singer-songwriter in the indie-pop band Frankie Cosmos, and celebrated the 10th anniversary of her debut album Zentropia in 2024

Greta has been writing songs since she was 11 years old, and in 2014 she spoke with Interview magazine about how her “artistically inclined” family was an early source of inspiration.

“My parents were into some musical stuff,” she said. “My family was very friendly towards artists, so that was encouraging. I took piano lessons for about 10 years. Every Friday night my family had music in our house.”

The singer continued: “We’d come with friends and we could be really loud and play music. It was really encouraging. It was mostly my aunt’s boyfriend, who taught me bass, and my brother would play drums and we’d just make stuff. and ‘rock out’.

When she was in eighth grade, Greta said Owen started taking her to his friends’ shows to watch them perform.

“I was always one of the younger people there, but we went to shows in Brooklyn,” she said. Interview. “It was a really good scene to be a part of. I said, “Wow, people my age are making really cool music!” [Frankie Cosmos] it probably came in part from that realization.”

Although Greta started high school among her peers, over time she switched to home schooling and after graduating in 2012, enrolled at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. However, the ambitious artist did not stay in the classroom because she went to continue her music career.

“I felt like I was living a double life,” she said W magazine in 2016. “I was always running to do a play every weekend, so I didn’t make any friends in college.”

Like her brother, Greta appeared in Squid and whale and anniversary, but she said W he has no plans to return to acting.

Meanwhile, her dad attended many of her performances and even made headlines for an interaction he had with a music critic.
