Meghan Trainor talks about how she transformed her body, saying she was inspired to lift weights when she realized “I can be stronger”.
The “All About That Bass” singer, 30, appeared on Todayand shared how her fitness journey began after host Hoda Kotb asked, “Can I also say you’re in great shape?”
“You look beautiful!” added Jenna Bush Hager.
“Oh my god, did you see me at the gym?” Trainor replied.
“First of all, we love you inside and out through everything, but this is like a new phase for you. Is this something where you intentionally said, ‘You know what, I want to get better?’ “, Kotb asked.

“I mean, look at those kids. I have to pick them up and chase them. I’m exhausted,” Trainor said of her sons, Riley, who turns 4 in February, and Barry, 17 months, who she shares with husband Daryl Sabar. “They come and visit me at every training session. They come at the end.”
Trainor previously told PEOPLE that she wants to recover before hitting the road for The Timeless Tour, which ended in October. “I want to train and eat clean, and feel good while dancing and singing,” she said. “I don’t want to be so upset, because I’m tired right now.”
The “Been Like This” singer shared that she doesn’t work out every day, saying “I’m not crazy.” Instead, “I try to lift weights three times a week. Little did I know that lifting weights would change my life so much. It was like I was dying, trying to run on a treadmill and I swelled up.”

“I just saw that I could be stronger, you know?” Trainor explained her commitment to weightlifting.
“Weights give you more energy later. I think when you run you get more adrenaline, but when you lift weights, you’re like, wow,” Kotb said.
“And you’re dead all day,” Trainor joked, prompting Hager to add that you can include your kids in the exercises.
“Now I’m lifting them like a dumbbell,” Trainor joked. “I say, ‘Okay, use your legs!’ ”
