As Season 4 approaches, curiosity is building over what viewers can expect. The three main stars — and executive producers — Short (Oliver), Steve Martin (Charles Haden-Savage) and Selena Gomez (Mabel Mora) are expected to return.

In February, Deadline announced that Saturday night live alum Molly Shannon would join the cast in the new season, playing “a powerful LA businesswoman who finds herself drawn into the world of New York City investigation.”

Jesse Williams, who first appeared in the Hulu show’s third season, has not been confirmed to return, but Martin’s co-creator John Hoffman expressed hope to see him and Streep again.

“I love them both, Jesse and Meryl, all of them. I mean, for God’s sake, I’d bring Paul back if we could,” he said The Hollywood Reporter before teasing other potential surprises. “Listen, I would give everything back, and that could happen. The victims, the killers, they can all play out in the landscape within these particular narrative ways that we can tell our stories.”

Jane Lynch’s character, Sazz Pataki, may also reappear through flashbacks after her character was killed off in the Season 3 finale. According to THR, Sazz’s death is expected to be a major plot point in the upcoming season as Mabel, Charles and Oliver search for answers.

“I think the idea is that you create a thing that you put out into the world, and sometimes you can’t be prepared for the consequences of what potentially the world does with your thing and how they feel about it,” Hoffman told the publication.

“It’s a challenging line to walk, and sometimes you have to face it that way,” he continued. “So the podcast and everything else that happened, and what it all means, and what it could all mean. It’s a really interesting world for these three to step into that way.”

Steve Martin, Meryl Streep, Selena Gomez and Martin Short arrive at the AFI Awards Luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles in Beverly Hills on January 12, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

The show is set to film in Los Angeles for a short time before the main three return to their central location at The Arconia in New York, per Deadline. No release date for the fourth season has been announced.

“The touchstone in LA was intentional and I don’t know how we might see it yet, but there might be a way that would be exciting. I don’t have a plan yet, though,” Hoffman told TheWrap in October, adding that Mabel, Charles and Oliver are in for a “very new situation” in season four.

“That excites me, along with many other ideas that can really open up the show in a new way, but keep the trio tighter, which I’m sure will make a lot of people happy, but also won’t take away from the great opportunities to hang out with the amazing people I already have thoughts and considered as possibilities for brilliant opportunities,” he said,
