Sir Michael Gambon is a famous British-Irish actor who has worked in theatre, television and film. He started his career at the National Theatre, where he was trained by the English actor and director Laurence Kerr Olivier. Gambon’s career took off when he landed the title role in John Dexter’s production of The Life of Galileo in 1980. He has won four TV BAFTA Awards, three Olivier Awards and an Irish Film and Television Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 for his contribution to the Irish film industry. In addition, he is ranked 28th in The Irish Times list of the best Irish film actors. Unfortunately, he had to retire from acting in 2015 due to memory loss.
