Michael Jackson’s 3 Kids: All About Prince, Paris and Bigi

Michael Jackson’s three children, Prince (27), Paris (25) and Bigi (formerly known as Blanket), 21, have lived in the spotlight all their lives.

When they were little, the pop star kept them semi-protected from the paparazzi with imaginative masks and veils. In 2007, Jackson’s longtime bodyguard told PEOPLE that the kids are “well-behaved, well-behaved kids… They’re really level-headed.” The singer’s publicist added: “They were Michael’s first priority.”

But after Jackson’s death in June 2009, the children became more visible in the public eye — starting with Paris’s brief, unplanned speech at their father’s funeral. “Ever since I was born, dad has been the best father you could ever imagine. And I just want to say that I love him so much,” said Paris, who was just 11 years old at the time.

Today, the siblings pursue their own passions and projects, but remain very close. “At this point in our life, there’s not really a sense that there’s this hierarchy of ‘I’m the older brother,'” Prince said in 2021. “It’s more [that] we’re all siblings and we’re all kind of on the same level where my sister has her strengths and my brother has his strengths and where I’m not as strong in certain areas, they complement me in that way.”

Prince added that even though the three have busy schedules, they make time for each other whenever they can. “Any moment I get to spend with my siblings now, especially as we get older and our own lives start to blossom and grow, every moment I have with them, every little family dinner, every family outing, is a really special moment.”

In August 2023, all three of Jackson’s children celebrated his 65th birthday. Prince and Biggie hosted a Q&A for fans at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino — home of Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson ONE – and Paris paid tribute to her dad during a show at Las Colonias Park Amphitheater in Colorado.

“It’s my dad’s birthday,” she told the crowd. “He would have been 65 today. He put 50 years of blood, sweat and tears, love and passion into doing what he did so that I could stand here on stage and scream into the microphone. I owe it all to him.”

Here’s what you need to know about the late Michael Jackson’s three children, Prince, Paris and Biggie.

Jackson’s first child with ex-wife Debbie Rowe, Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., was born on February 13, 1997, in Los Angeles. His godfathers are Macaulay Culkin and Elizabeth Taylor, and he is usually referred to as Prince Michael Jackson.

“Words cannot describe how I feel. … I am blessed beyond belief and will work tirelessly to be the best father I can possibly be,” Jackson said in a statement at the time. “I grew up in a fishbowl and I will not allow the same to happen to my child. Please respect our wishes and give my son his privacy.”

Jackson and Rowe divorced in 1999, and the singer received full custody of the children. The children grew up on his Neverland ranch, and after their father’s death, the siblings went to live with their grandmother, Katherine Jackson.

Prince graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in business administration in 2019. He is an avid motorcycle fan and has a YouTube channel dedicated to his rides around California, plus several videos where he reviews movies with his brother Biggie and cousin Taj Jackson.

While a student at Loyola Marymount University, Prince founded the charity Heal Los Angeles with a friend. In 2020, Heal partnered with a meal delivery service to provide meals to those in need during the pandemic. He said his father would be “proud” of his efforts.

“I would like to think he would be very proud because I think this was one of his main goals, not only to spread his message of positivity and happiness, but to see it carried out in his children,” he said. “I’m very grateful that I have this sense that it’s a collaborative ecosystem — we all need to help each other — and that came from the way he raised us.”

In October 2022, at the 40th anniversary party ThrillerPrince told PEOPLE what he misses most about Jackson.

I think about him every day, he said. “The thing I probably miss the most about him is his hands. He had really strong, really big hands. Firm, but they were tender. It’s hard to explain.”

Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson was born on April 3, 1998 in Los Angeles in the family of Jackson and Rowe. She was named after the city where she was conceived, after her father and after her grandmother, Katherine.

Paris went through some very public struggles after her father’s death in 2009, speaking out Rolling stone that she attempted suicide “several times” by the age of 15. She was also hospitalized in 2015 after a possible suicide attempt. “It was just self-hatred,” she shared 2018 “Low self-esteem, thinking I can’t do anything right, I don’t think I’m worth living anymore.”

In 2019, Paris sought treatment for her physical and emotional health. A source told PEOPLE at the time, “She checked into a treatment facility to help with her wellness plan and is looking forward to coming out of this revitalized and ready to tackle the exciting new projects that await her.”

As a teenager, Paris also renewed her relationship with her mother, Rowe. “It’s cool,” Willow Smith said in the episode Talk about the red table. “Getting to know her, seeing how similar we are, getting to know the music she likes… We’re pretty similar. It’s great to have her as a friend. It’s very cool, which I love. That’s the perfect word to describe it.”

Like her older brother, Paris’ godfathers are also Caulkin and Taylor. She used to call her brother Prince her “twin” and always looked up to him. “He’s everything to me, you know?” Paris opened up about her relationship with Prince in 2020. “I always looked up to him and I always wanted his approval and everything, and I wanted to be more like him.”

Paris was very open about her experience with the outing; she doesn’t label her sexuality and has previously said “I wouldn’t consider myself bisexual because I’ve dated more than men and women.” In 2021, she said that it was difficult to talk about it with her “religious” family, although her brothers were very supportive. “My family is very religious and a lot of things, like homosexuality, are very taboo, so we don’t talk about it and it’s not really accepted,” she told Smith. “I’ve come to a point where I respect them and I love them. I respect their beliefs. I respect their religion. I’m at a point where I can expect them to put aside their culture and their religion… expectations lead to anger. What people what they think about me is none of my business.”

She followed in her father’s footsteps as a musician; she was in several bands and released EPs and a full-length solo album, Wilted, 2020. “Everybody in my family is into music. I mean, I’m Jackson,” she said in 2020. “It makes sense that I’m a musician, but like Jackson plays folk indie?”

On February 24, 2023, Paris released her single “bandaid”, which she described to PEOPLE as “louder” and “more fun” than her other singles “just you” and “lighthouse”.

“But in terms of the songwriting aspect, it’s still the same acoustic folk approach that I always take when I write,” she added.

Paris also told PEOPLE that her goal is to release a full-length album. “I have enough [songs] which are already recorded and ready to be released to make an album. In terms of how much [songs] I wrote, I don’t even know how many I have. Dozens, maybe.”

In addition, Paris is a model and actress: she is currently the face of KVD Beauty and has appeared in American Horror Story and Hulu’s teen comedy Sexpil.

In October 2022, Paris met her aunt Janet Jackson during a fashion week party in France. The “All for you” singer shared a photo on Instagram of the two of them sitting on the couch. “So good hanging out with my beautiful niece @parisjackson,” she wrote in the caption. Paris responded with a single black heart emoticon.

Of the three Jackson children, Bigi keeps the most hidden profile. He was born via surrogate in 2002 as Prince Michael Jackson II, and was also known as Blanket. In 2015, it changed its name to Biga.

Biggie is very close with his older brother Prince, and a family friend told PEOPLE in 2019 that the two are “best friends” who love sci-fi and science. Jackson’s youngest child also celebrated his 18th birthday with his siblings at a sushi restaurant in 2020.

“My little brother is coming of age today. what the fuck,” Paris wrote on Instagram alongside three commemorative photos of Biggie. “I changed his diapers. this is such a journey.. proud of the handsome, intelligent, insightful, funny and kind young man he has become. he loves his privacy so that’s all I have to say. hbd lil bro♥️.”

In 2021, Bigi gave a rare interview and talked about his desire to influence the world. “That’s what each of us does [siblings] they want to work — to create things that people enjoy, but that also benefit their lives,” he said.

The youngest Jackson is also passionate about climate change. “I think it’s important that we all know about it. We have work to do, but our generation knows how important it is,” he said.
