The 10-episode series will see de Pablo, 44, and Weatherly, 55, on screen together for the first time in a decade.

Weatherly started his run with NCIS when the show debuted in 2003 and aired in 2016. He recently appeared on the show during the funeral of Donald “Ducky” Mallard, played by the late David McCallum.

De Pablo joined in the third season and continued to act NCIS until her character appeared to be killed off in season 13.

The plot continues after David’s “presumed death,” according to the official synopsis.

“Tony left NCIS team to go raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva is discovered alive, prompting her to complete one final mission with NCIS before reuniting with Tony and their daughter in Paris,” the synopsis continues.

“Since then – and where we find them in the new Paramount+ original series – Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter Tali together. When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must flee across Europe, try to find out who’s after them, and maybe even learn to trust each other again so they can finally live their unconventional happily ever after.”

In a joint statement, Weatherly and de Pablo said they had been discussing the possibility of telling this story for “many years” and now, with the help of McNamara, 61, they were both ready to move forward.

“The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter. We also want to acknowledge and thank the fans from all over the world who have supported the ‘TIVA’ movement over the years. Even today, they greet each other in stores and on the street to tell us how much these characters mean to them and to ask what Tony and Ziva are up to now. This is for you!” said the actors.

Before Weatherly’s departure in 2016, he spoke positively to reporters about his character. “I spent a lot of hours with him and we’ll see if I miss him after a while, but I think he will.” I liked it. He had a really great puppy sense of fun, adventure and optimism,” he said.

McNamara, who also serves as showrunner for the new series, added that he is “incredibly excited to be stepping into the NCIS universe with Cote and Michael.”

Referring to NCIS franchise as a “global sensation,” the executive producer said it was “phenomenal” that “CBS Studios and Paramount+ have given us the green light to shoot in Europe.”
