Miley Cyrus Celebrates 31st Birthday with Performance to ‘Audience of Family and Friends’: ‘Birthday Gift to Myself’

Miley Cyrus celebrated her 31st birthday with an honor for herself — and some lucky friends and family.

The “Used to Be Young” singer turned another year older on Thursday and marked a new chapter by performing a pre-Thanksgiving show for her loved ones at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

And as she explained in an Instagram post, her “birthday gift to ME this year was VERY on brand.”

“I performed for MYSELF and sang my favorite songs including my own,” Cyrus wrote under a compilation of clips and pictures from the night. “The first ‘live’ performance of ‘Flowers’ was in front of an audience full of my friends and family.”

“Bringing this song back to the seed… it has sprouted sensationally,” she added. “Grateful for the growth in both of us. 🌹💋❤️ Love, Miley.”

Cyrus wore an all black ensemble for the performance including a strapless black dress, gloves and a slicked back bun. Her intimate concert took place in front of the piano for stripped down performances of her hit no. 1, the Grammy-nominated “Flowers” and several other crowd pleasers.

At one point during “Flowers,” Cyrus even encouraged the crowd to sing along with her, and did some fun impromptu adlibs. “I didn’t want to leave (but I had to), I didn’t want to fight (but we did), I started to cry, but then I remembered that I was (I’m in Dolce!)”, Cyrus sang to great applause.

The musician also performed Journey’s “Faithfully” — which also ended with a massive group sing-along — and some other seemingly unreleased material. She was joined at the performance by pop star Ryan Beatty, according to a picture he originally shared on his Instagram Story, which she later reposted.

As previously reported, the performance at the Chateau Marmont featured lyrics apparently aimed at her boyfriend Maxx Morand, 25, who was reportedly in attendance.

“I don’t know if it’ll ever stop / I wouldn’t mind if it didn’t / Don’t leave me high / Don’t let me down / Cause I want you more,” she sang at one point, looking straight into the front row near Morando saying “Don’t let me down ,” which drew laughter from the crowd.

In the comments section of her birthday post, Miley saw a lot of love from fans and friends — Donatella Versace, Vanessa Hudgens and more shared well wishes.

Outside of her latest performance, Cyrus recently teamed up with her godmother Dolly Parton for a new version of her 2013 hit “Wrecking Ball,” which is featured on the country icon’s new album Rock star.

“I grew up listening to my aunt Dollys music and it’s an honor to hear her sing one of my songs,” she wrote on Instagram. “I love you Aunt Dolly! I’m so happy to add another collaboration under our shiny (leather) belt! Now we are ROCKSTARS!”

She also scored six Grammy nominations earlier this month, including Album of the Year Summer vacation without end.

She celebrated her nominations on Instagram with a post congratulating her fellow nominees.

“Seeing women ruling the music industry makes me proud. It’s fun to be nominated and exciting to win, but having my music LOVED all over the world is a real trophy,” she wrote. “To my Smilers – I celebrate YOU today. Your joy is my bliss. My team + all my collaborators are irreplaceable and invaluable pieces of this puzzle. I love you all. Thank you for making my endless summer vacation so sweet.”
