Mina Starsiak Hawk shared a Costco hack for “all the workaholics, protein junkies, and good old-fashioned meat lovers” looking to save on ground beef.
In an Instagram video posted Aug. 13, the HGTV star revealed that Costco is selling 10 lbs. lean ground beef for $44 at the grocery store and showed off the “meat tube” she bought for her family. Mina, 39, revealed that her husband Steve Hawk “saw this on TikTok and Instagram” before they decided to try it themselves.
In the video, Mina confirmed that the beef they bought was 88% lean. She said to ask for a “meat tube” in Costco’s meat department in the store.
She then cut the tube into five “2 lb pieces.” and froze them. She said it was 10 lbs. of minced meat would last her and her family “probably two weeks”.

Mina then further discounted the prices, explaining that the meat at Costco was about “$4-5 per pound,” compared to the “$8-12 per pound” she was previously paying when buying ground beef at Whole Foods. That adds up to a total savings of about $75.

According to a TikTok user who also shared the same hack online, “you go to your local meat store and tell them you want a big tube of meat by the kilo” since they might not always be on the floor to buy it. The “meat tube” is also available for purchase at Costco’s corporate centers.
