Mind-bending illusion will have you convinced you know the colour of this woman’s eyes – but the truth is shocking

A SERIAL illusionist has shared a video revealing how a woman with gray eyes appears to have blue irises.

The trick was shared on TikTok by serial illusionist Dean Jackson, aka @beatonthebeeb, who explains how it works.

In the video, Jackson said: “Your brain detects the pigment, the gray area around the pupil, and assumes that the red filter has caught the blue light.

“So it’s trying to help you, as your brain should, by putting the color blue back into the picture for you, and your brain is completely fooling you in the process.”

The photoreceptors behind the eye react to the light that passes through them.

If the brain recognizes the context of the image as blue, gray light can appear blue.

But if we then enlarge the image, we will recognize that the blue is actually grey.

Mr. Jackson gave another example of this point in the video, where he showed an image of a gray Coca-Cola can covered with cyan filter stripes.

The filter fringes appear red because your eye expects them to, even though the cyan filter blocks all red light.

Unfiltered gray streaks also appear red due to the principle of ‘color constancy’.

This is a phenomenon that allows our eyes and brain to perceive something of the same color under different lighting conditions.

However, this ability can be tricked and can cause one color to look different if it’s adjacent to another.

In this case, a cyan stripe next to a gray stripe can make the gray look red.
