Mindy Kaling is delighted with her new co-star.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE about skincare brand Lion Pose, Kaling praised actress Kate Hudson, who will star and co-produce an upcoming Netflix basketball comedy series with Kaling.
“She’s absolutely amazing,” Kaling, 44, says of Hudson.
The untitled series will focus on the family’s professional basketball franchise. Hudson portrays Isla Gordon, who is unexpectedly placed at the helm of her family’s franchise.
“What’s great about Kate is that she’s a true professional, but she’s never done a sitcom before,” explains Kaling. “So I feel really lucky that she’s doing a half-hour comedy and I get to be the person writing for her.”

Kaling continues, “What’s also nice is that she’s not just the showrunner, she’s the showrunner. All the actors look up to her. She’s been famous for so long that they’re really in awe of her, but she’s incredibly warm and friendly. So that’s just great.”

Kaling notes that she’s worked with mostly “really young people for the last few years” on her shows, including I never did and Sexual life of female students.
This series, she says, “is a different, new adventure. It was a lot of fun.”

Hudson has also been hard at work releasing music. Earlier this month, she dropped the music video for her single “Talk About Love.”
She hasn’t officially announced a release date for her upcoming debut album, but Hudson has been teasing it since 2022.
Of Hudson’s new venture, Kaling tells PEOPLE, “I love her new music. I love it so much.”
