On Thursday night on Saturday Night Live, cast member Molly Kearney took the stage to make a humorous and passionate statement about the recent attacks on trans youth in the United States. Appearing with Michael Che and Colin Jost in a segment on “The Weekend Update,” Molly, who is the first non-binary cast member on SNL to use they/them pronouns, stole the show.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 400 anti-LGBTQ+ laws have been introduced across the country, said Michael Che, representing Molly. The ACLU estimates that there are 461 bills in total. Later, Molly Kearney makes a spectacular and hilarious appearance by descending from the roof supported by a belt.
After getting off, Molly joked about how the belt “enhanced” the groin area and how “they’ve been hanging on my genitals for far too long and I’m starting to feel like a fucking Republican rep.” Michael Che then mentions that at least 14 states this week alone have passed laws restricting the provision of gender-affirming child care.
“Listen to that, Michael. limit children’s health care. For some reason, the word ‘trans’ makes people overlook the term ‘boy,’” Molly explained. “If you don’t care about the lives of trans kids, you don’t care about the lives of fucking kids,” he received loud applause from the comedian. Then Molly joked that they had been hanging from the ceiling for a while while waiting for their big arrival.
I heard a crew member ask, “Is he going to die up there?” at a point. Another man replied, “You mean THEY are going to die up there?” Then they both left and didn’t help,” Molly joked. Which is very similar to how trans people are treated now.
“People have to wake up. Trans youth are forced to grow up too quickly. As the belt began to lift the comedian from his chair, Molly said: “We’re supposed to keep them safe and we have to lift them up. NOT ME, ‘THEY.’ I’M THINKING ABOUT THE CHILDREN.
They got serious once more as Molly dangled from the ceiling and said, “Kids, what’s happening is WRONG and you don’t need to be terrified. You should concentrate on being a child while we take care of your protection.
